So husband's Qantas card is our main credit card. Pay as much as we can on it.
Including son's wedding. Unfortunately due to reasons beyond my husband and my control the original wedding venue was cancelled.
We have lost the initial deposit however we may receive back the 2nd payment if the date is booked by another party
Now we are talking possibly months (if at all ) if that second lot of funds is returned.
What happens to the Qantas points we will have been allocated to that expenditure?
Just curious

Once the refund takes place (assuming it’s back to your card) you won’t receive any more QF points from that card till your spend has offset the points that were received for the refunded amounts.

Does that apply to all QF points earning cards? i.e. consistent T&C’s across all card issuers.

I would think more or less.

The banks can't take the points away from your QF statement once they've paid QF for them and they've posted I think.

So say the refund is equivalent to what would have earned 5,000 points. Once your spend on the card has been what would have provided 5,000 points you'd start receiving points from that card again.

If you have other cards at the same time they would continue to provide points as normal. It'd only affect the card that you had a refund on.

With e.g. St. George if you had recently got the card they'd offset the sign up bonus points against any refunds, so instead of say 90k points someone might get 85k points. Obviously if you'd had a card several months the bank wouldn't have the option to do this as you'd be long beyond a sign up bonus window.

I think they can but its not easy, Bankwest had a number of spectacular failures with this!

In my experience have certainly had QF points stick despite a later cancellation but I think this will vary from bank to bank.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
