Reduction of CX award flights to the US

leaving a few PE and First awards.
Now even the First and PE seats disappeared; however manages to snaffle some AAwards in Business via ORD and TYO; (+++ was USD5.60).

I could also see QF12/QF117 in Business for 128000 QFF points; didn't check the +++.

This has to be an IT issue with their award chart changeover on Friday.

I'm hoping so. Loosing the CX route to the US would be a huge blow for me.

I haven't been able to find any CX flights for probably close to 20 different routes over several months, and it would seem from FT and other blogs this isn't uncommon. I just can't see why CX would all of a sudden remove the majority of award space to both their own members plus partners.

It seems logical that there's been an IT issue surrounding their new award structure. Although I do admit, sometimes the seemingly logical answer isn't always the right one.

What metal were the flights? Taxes seem quite low for including a TYO-HKG segment which I'm guessing is JL.
If AA then sure...

Weirder still,
Cant book a direct PER-HGK to pay with $$$ -
Making me go via SIN ????? (But CX 170 can still be seen on the oneworld RTW tool ?????)
And Qantas Route chart has removed this leg too ? - Can now only fly from BNE/MEL/SYD ?

Actually - It looks as if premium redemption on QANTAS is way down from where it was last year - across the board. Noticeable increase in Y availability though.
Hope this isn't a permanent change

Some only from what I can see. Definitely not back to what I would normally have expected to see. But nonetheless good news.

Seems as though it is nearly back to normal.

Searching a myriad of dates between AU/US/EUR & HKG seems to now show up CX flights in all classes similar to what it was over a week ago, but some intra-Asia routes have nothing. HKG-SIN for instance I can't see any CX flights in Mar/Apr/May next year and normally this route provides plenty of availability on CX.

Definitely better than last night.

But not what I would consider to be 'normal'. I've gotten very familiar with exactly how many seats have been released at what time of the day on difference CX routes from Sydney to the US.

That's why I said "nearly back to normal".

Here's what TPG got out of a Cathay spokesperson.
Cathay Pacific responded to TPG regarding the system outage, saying, “Our system was being upgraded and the redemption process will return to normal gradually. We apologise for the inconvenience caused, please try again later.”

So it would seem that things should continue to go back to how they were over the next few days/week, here's to hoping anyhow.

The flight I want to book LGW-HKG-SYD business is available with QFF on a suitable day but NOT available with Asia Miles. Not even in Choice or Tailored. I have waitlisted the Standard award but damn. What is up with that? o_O

Some airlines hold certain availability for their own frequent flyers. Asia miles does this aswell with Cathay flights.

Some airlines occasionallt hold certain availability for other partners rather than their own frequent flyers.

I have most often come across the with QF for AAdvantage redemptions.

Perhaps the revenue is better.

I was watching redemptions to EU showing J availability on most days up to 22/6, but since the website was enhanced I see economy only, J waitlisted (on AsiaMiles). QFF redemption has MEL-HKG in J then Y on CX to ZRH. I'm checking every hour to see when "next day" flips over on AsiaMiles (I know QFF is 1000h AuEST).

It could be phantom availability on QF. Checking the Japan Airlines tool would confirm if it is real.

I have enough QFF pts to do a dummy booking which took me all the way through to payment, but I guess it could have still failed. I don't want it badly enough (yet!) to pay 139K instead of 85K. I may live to regret this decision.

Reading a few blogs and FT, it seems as though the AsiaMiles website 'enhancement' is anything but.

If it got to the payment page it wouldn't be phantom availability would it? I thought it throws up errors before the payment page if that is the case?
