I've just got back from a return trip to Auckland, booked on an NZ ticket, but flying over on VA metal (and back on NZ). Nothing has posted yet for the return leg, but the trip over has shown up in my VA account as zero points and zero status credits. The booking class for both legs is 'S', which as far as I can tell from the VA website, should be eligible for earn. Am I missing something here?

I've flown to NZ and back numerous times with my VA FF details, and have always earned both points (but not many) and SC - but flying on an NZ operated flight. I haven't actually flown before on VA operated flight on NZ ticket so not sure if that will make a difference, or if I will/should get anything when the return leg posts in a few days.

Before I call VA - can anyone point to anything that would suggest I shouldn't earn anything for this journey?

"S" fare class doesn't earn anything when flying Trans-Tasman.

OP said he was NZ ticketed so this chart applies (and yes S tickets on NZ earn Discount Economy Status credits and 0.25 points per mile)

It's obviously a mistake as somethings obviously gone wrong. Air NZ can often book reward customers using Airpoints into paid fare buckets like S which is possibly why VA may think it was an award ticket (and 0 points awarded). I think a simple follow up may be required but you might need to provide tickets with proof of payment to show it's a paid ticket.

Thanks - I'll call them.

I also found the following page linked off the first reference above: https://velocityfrequentflyer.com/content/Info/StatusEarnFareClass/

It looks fairly current - referencing April 2018, and shows that S class would be eligible for earn Trans-Tasman as a 'Discount Economy' ticket. Note that page is for VA ticket and operated flights.

Have VA quietly dropped some fare classes from eligibility in the last couple of months?

Nope. There'd be fireworks on AFF if that happened.

The page you posted is current so good luck and let us know how you go.

I had the same issue a few months ago, you need to contact them (I did via email) and they will investigate. The credits will then not land for another month or two.

The return leg posted (correctly) overnight, which was an NZ operated flight. 20 SC and 412 points. I'll send an email about the outbound leg.

Thanks all

All came good by itself a few days later (I hadn't gotten around to contacting them yet). I got a points adjustment about 2 weeks post the flight, then a SC adjustment a day later.
