So I've checked in for my domestic flight coming up later tonight. As a WP, extra legroom seats are available at a cost of A$60... says the web version, and you will be prompted to a payment screen once you have selected one of those seats.

Here's the catch, I've previously checked in via the QF iOS app, upon trying to change my seat preference, the exit row seats were all marked as available and was confirmed upon selection. No payment screens, no nothing, except my BP refreshed and showing my new seat assignment in the extra legroom row!

I might check out whether my seat selection sticks when I jet off tonight, or be asked to pay the A$60.

Another interesting thing is that upon verifying it on the web version, it still shows my old seat assignment, almost like there are two Moogles travelling on the same flight in two different seats. (QF synchronisation at its best)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Probably because it's so close to flight time they become free.

Also, I believe they actually need to have at least one person on each side of the exit just in case you're required.

It is one way to think of it, but as I mentioned, if I was to select that seat on the website right now, I will be asked to pay up that A$60, where as I could switch to anywhere in the extra legroom row whenever I feel like it on the app.

Meanwhile my app is out of sync with the web version and expert flyer, still showing my old 23A seat as occupied (but not blocked)

If you have checked in, what does your boarding pass say?

The difference between the checked in seat selection (your image on the right) and the MMB seat selection on the left may be due to the fact that booking is under airport control and the two don't talk to each other.

The "select free exit row on iOs App at check-in" was still working for me last weekend.

Will be interesting to hear your outcome, Moogle.

BD

The first version of the seat map is the 'reservation' version, the second version of the seat map is the more live 'check-in system' version of the seat map. They really need to stop showing the reservation seat map when online check-in is open, causes many issues.

As for seeing two different seats, when allocating seats in the checkin system it currently doesn't send the info back to the reservation 'back end' of the system. But if purely allocated in the 'reservation' part it will send it to the 'live' system. Hope that makes sense.

It's just an Amadeus fault for all carriers that use the system.

It’s be fun if I get the red light and beep at the gate

TheInsider explains what is happening above - I think you may be overthinking things here.

That's basically only for narrowbody overwing exists.

There's no such requirement at exits where an FA is sitting on a jump seat for takeoff and landing.
