Hey everyone, so I have flights booked with Virgin Australia from PER - SYD - LAX - JFK. The PER to SYD flight is operated by Virgin Australia, and the SYD to LAX and LAX to JFK flights are operated by Delta. I've managed to select my seats for the Virgin flights via their website, and I've chosen my seats for the Delta flights via the Delta website with a Delta PNR.

However, on the Delta site, it says 'select seat' for the Virgin flight, and on the Virgin website, it shows no Delta seats and if I try pick seats for the Delta flights it says "Online seat selection is unavailable for this flight. Seats will be assigned upon check-in." Does anyone know if this is normal? I've also had issues with some later flights in the booking where Delta and Virgin show different seat allocations for the same flight!

I was also wondering, if I want to do a web-check in, which airline's website do I use? I'm assuming Virgin as the first flight is with Virgin? Going off your experience, does anyone know if when I do the Virgin check-in, will I still be allocated the seats for the Delta flights that I selected via the Delta website (seeing as currently Virgin's system won't show my seats for the Delta flights)?

I'm just a bit worried that I will somehow lose the seats I chose via the Delta website, and I definitely want the seats as I'm in one of the only 2 rows of 2 on the plane. Would it be safer to check-in at the Virgin Australia counter? What would you guys recommend I do to ensure I don't lose the seats for the Delta (SYD - LAX, LAX - JFK) flights?

Any help would be really appreciated! Thanks :)

that is all normal for your seat selection.

Dont believe you can checkin online for your flights.

Yes, all normal.

I wouldn't check in online for this type of flight even if it's available. It's a complex itinerary and you want to ensure you and your bags go where you want them when you want them (including seats). I just don't trust VA IT.

Remember to re-check DL seats a few days out - flight fill quickly and you may find yourself boxed in quickly.

All normal. You won't lose those seats. VA/DL know which seats you are in for the other operator's flight, but there's just no way for the customer to access online. Recently did SYD>LAX>JFK return last month. Web checkin was available for VA and DL flights; at bag drop at Sydney, they reconfirmed seats I had preselected, and printed off new boarding passes for both sectors.

Basically when you get the LAX, pass through CBP checkpoint, collect your bags and follow the well marked signs and guidance to interline/connecting flights area. Pass your bags off to the guy yelling Delta, and make your way over to the Delta Terminal. (I always walk to get a bit of fresh air) I couldn't find any info about domestic DL departures in Tom Bradley, but staff were surprisingly helpful in guiding me there. Just leave yourself plenty of time to go back through security in the Delta terminal.

Thanks for your help! So even though when I call Virgin or look at my booking online it won't show seats for my Delta flight, you're pretty confident that if I were to either do web-check in or check in at the airport via Virgin's digital kiosks, it would recognise the seats I preselected via Delta? I just find it strange that they can't see my seats now but will somehow be able to later. Do you think it'd be better/safer to do web-check in on the Virgin website, or at the Virgin's airport digital kiosks? Thanks :)

If you want to share the dates and flight numbers, I can check and confirm which seats are booked on Expert Flyer for you:)
