So, I'm flying to New York on Monday from Australia on my own, and am currently in a moon boot, it suddenly dawned on me, do I need to inform the airline beforehand? Or will it be fine, I can walk with a limp and pain out of the boot, but in the boot, I can walk really well and don't think I'd need any assistance.

I'm fine with having to take the boot off and on at security, but I cannot risk missing this flight.

Any tips would help :)

I'm seeing a lot of the moonboots over here in the US when going through the airport and its both wheelchair and walking. Doesn't seem to be a big issue at all, such as lines, security etc., but i always work on the policy if its a little bit different to normal travel, just let them know, it certainly will never hurt.

I'm sure you realise an exit row is out of the question but otherwise can't see a seating issue.

Do you have medical permission to travel? If so carry it with you just in case it's asked for by the airline.

Welcome aboard!

If you find that walking does become difficult, I wouldn't hesitate to ask for wheelchair assistance

Hi there, I travelled with a MB 2 years ago. Call up the airline and ask for a wheelchair. You’ll get priority boarding and upon arrival in LA, you’ll get wheeled all the way through a priority clearance lane. Have a few US notes handy to to tip the assistant that will get you through. I also managed to keep the prime 5B exit row seat on a QF 747!!

Travelled with a Moon boot not too long ago and it wasn’t an issue. Arranged a wheelchair at both ends - check in to lounge (got myself to gate as I was mobile and preboarded) and then top of airbridge to luggage.

I made sure I selected a seat that had the Moon boot closest to the middle seat and in fact Air NZ seat blocked the middle seat both times to give me the room. Also offered me pillows etc to rest it on.

I could have made it through the airport myself albeit slowly but they are long distances so opted for the assistance.
