We recently flew Johannesburg to Cape Town return with BA business class and I must say the overall experience puts Qantas domestic to shame.
The check in experience was quick with 4 business counters open....the SLOW Lounge simply superb with the best domestic food and drink options we have ever experienced....on board the flights attendants were super friendly and the in flight dining experience was wonderful....3 hot food options and we had the best ever vegetation curry and roast chicken in one direction and grilled chicken breat with couscous and Beef Eye Fillet on the return...all meals just superb....on arrival in both directions our bags were the first out....on the negative side the planes are old 737-400, the seats ordinary but typical BA club and no entertainment....overall a wonderful experience.

The "vegetation" curry sounds interesting .. what sort of price did you pay JNB-CPT return in J if you don't mind and did you book locally or prior to entering RSA.

Compared to 99.99% of all domestic airlines J or Y on QF and choke, even VA, are pretty good IMHO. My last BA (Comair) J flight was not as fabulous an experience as yours, albeit pretty good. I’m glad you enjoyed it though as most domestic travel in any class sucks these days. (Said as I’m flying around the Americas)

I've found Comair to be pretty good as well. Recently flew CPT-JNB on SAA. It was a 330 with the new flatbeds, but that was about as good as it got. Service was ok, but catering was terrible. 1 soggy sandwich for a lunchtime J flight. Comair a few weeks earlier was a lot better. They've got quite a few new 737-800s as well as the handful of older ones.

If only the rest of BA J was half as good as Comair. I found the service to be excellent and the food tasty. Those SLOW lounges are a winner too.

The SLOW lounges were ok, but I wouldn't say great. We recently flew Y return on this route and was nice to be fed and not pay like I'm used to on my regular BA flights. Very decent meals in Y, good serving size and decent portion of meat.

Note that if you book the exit row... it shows as 3 rows on the seat map. Don't fall for it! The first is not really an exit.

Just as a tip:

9000 avios one way for this flight.
Or 4500 avios in economy.

In my opinion, I very good alternative to cash.

Worked well for me.

Peru (flying LATAM) is also really great value of Avios as the cash fares can be astronomical even though they're often only 30 minute-1 hour hops!
