Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Purchased this on release for the princely sum of $21.50. Evolved really well and drinking at its peak. Will hold for a few more years with ease.

Oh...and needed to celebrate West Coast being a game clear at the top of the AFL ladder so what better than something from the Perth hills.

Started with these on Saturday, yes, the Cabernet was from the SmashVino deal.

Chardonnay was tasting more aged than I would expect at seven years. Happy to drink it now; although it may last a few more years, why risk it?
Cabernet was exceptional, this is mother's milk to us. Deep fruits, still herbaceous, great tannic structure, typical MR eucalyptus - exceptional value at $45ish.

Almost made the wedding bearable...

After struggling through a batch of Naked Wines' very average reds (don't bother signing up), I was cooking myself a red wine casserole (or bœuf à la Bourguignonne if it pleases you). I say myself because my wife and daughter 1 are vegetarian and daughter 2 vegan.
This wine fell out of the rack and into my hands. I really enjoyed it, very smooth with a nice subtle fruity nose. I haven't drunk these staples for a while, but maybe I need to get back to these wines, great value for the price. I see that the 2012 is on member's special on DM, I might buy half a dozen.

Very nice Cune imperial gran reserva 2011 tonight with friends in Madrid. Exceptional. About 50€ in supermarket, $180 on vivono.

Cune imperial has to be one of my all time favourite wines, not only from Spain.

Soul Growers - 2009 Esperanza (Barossa Valley Cab Sav / Mourvedre blend). Only 750 bottles produced. Took a few minutes to open up after decanting, but now delicious, dark cherries and perhaps plums coming through on the palate, and good length on the finish. Must drink it before this evening's dinner of curried salmon trashes my palate for the night :)

That was on offer last Sunday as well. When I commented on how the decanter still had a reasonable amount in it at 2pm the reply was "I can usually find more". My reply was that I was now going to match my flying with the server's roster! Which they proceeded to tell me!:cool:
