Hi,
I'm VA plat with a couple of hundred thousand points.

In July I'm flying BNE-LAX (VA7) then LAX-SYD VA2 on a Friday/Saturday a week apart. As my company will only pay basic economy I've spent a few hundred $'s of my own money to make sure I'm booked Freedom both ways.

Question is, best strategy for an upgrade, I'm already wait-listed but found they only even start looking at the list 5 days out. So I have an expertflyer alert for Z class on those dates too.

I'm considering bidding for an upgrade on the LAX-SYD overnight leg.

- Do they process the bids before points upgrades?
- Do I get full SC's if I "win" the bid?
- Any ideas how much to bid, their suggestion is $2.5k...

Thanks for any tips!

I would be trying to upgrade with points. I suspect point upgrades are processed first (at least, that's how it works with most airlines and I don't see why Virgin would be any different). If you bid for an upgrade, you'll still only get Freedom points/SCs anyway.

If they're asking $2,500 for a bid, that's all the more reason to pursue a points upgrade for 45,000 Velocity points IMHO!
