A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

My apologies to potm!

I've been doing some research and it looks like AA might indeed still consider Middle East and the Subcontinent as the same region for the purposes of awards.

This would suggest potm's suggestions via AUH (or even DOH) should work.

I'd at least be gunning for those routes if that's what you want.

Can you point me where you saw that? It'll be good to go NRT-DOH-MLE just to experienced Qatar Q-Suites. I'll definitely have to call up and check.

I'm sure this info is here somewhere but cant find it. I have a flight booked via AA, it shows as ticketed on AA and can be seen by logging into Qantas but in checkmytrip I can't see a ticket number. Any ideas how I can verify this has actually been ticketed?

Do you have the trip confirmation email from AA?
That would should show the ticket number.

I'm new to Aadvantage and I could use some help.

I'm trying to redeem a reward flight, one way, from Sydney to the UK, not fussy where, but Heathrow would be good, in J, around the end of April 2019, from 25th on.

The only option it offers is an economy flight QF to PVG, then, after a long layover, to LHR with BA. On some later days, I can see options with AY, but still with the QF economy flight to Asia. On some dates there is a BA option but I would prefer not to fly BA.

How can I get it to show any other options? Cathay, JAL, Qatar?

Any suggestions will be most appreciated.

Use a BA account to search for other oneworld partners. AA online is quite limited.
You can also use Qantas to search but Qatar won't show up.
Try and search each segment one by one as well.

You can't get it to show those airlines as the AA system isn't set up for that. You'll need to find seats on alternative booking tools and phone AA to book. You can use the Qantas or British Airways tools to find availability. But be mindful you need to follow the strict AA routing rules, so not all combinations of flights you find will be eligible for booking via AA.

There is reasonable J availability from SYD-KUL on MH but onwards you will still have a possible long layover and likely a BA flight. On May4/5 you could travel SYD-PER-HKG-LHR but not an easy trip.

It depends too if SYD-LHR is allowed via PER and HKG for routing rules?

Yes Syd-Lhr can go via Asia 1, Asia 2 or Doha. Syd-kul-lhr, would have the most chance of availability on MH.
Lots of possibilities, QF, CX, QR, BA and also Fin air are other options. If the obvious routes are not availabile try a less direct option.

Agree it meets the basic routing rules, but there must also be a published fare available for the specific route. You can't choose any route you like as long as it is via Asia 1/2/doha. There must be a oneworld airline that publishes a fare for SYD-London that allows you to fly via PER and HKG).

That’s not how my understanding of the published fare rule works. As long as there is a fare from Syd-Lhr which there obviously is.

The other restrictions is a maximum mileage rule which is quite generous and a max of 4 flights.

Used my BA acct and the first awards(Y) on airlines other than BA are on the 30/4 with CX138-CX257.Those available all the first week of may but sometimes with CX 237.
On 4/5 and 5/5 also QF117-CX237.
before 30/4 you can get MU,CX,QF most days connecting to a BA flight.QF is via HKG.

You sure have to be quick when availability pops up. Found two seats in J on QF7 this morning. Called up and AA was showing as available. By the time I had the agent add in the connections, the seats were gone. :(

Thanks for all your assistance, AFF-ers.!

I'm starting to get the hang of this. It does appear unnecessarily complicated, but...

On we go!
