Hi all, I'm trying to book Emirates first class MEL-DXB-JFK, which of course isn't coming up in search results on the QF site if you simply search for MEL-JFK.

I was under the impression I could book this using the multi-city tool - two flights: MEL-DXB and DXB-JFK, and as long as the transit in Dubai was <24h, it would price as out at 192,000 qantas points given the 14k mile distance covered. Instead, it's pricing at 270k points - i.e. each flight is calculated individually.

The transit time in Dubai is 14 hours. Does anyone know if I'm doing something wrong?

This mis-pricing is a current 'known issue' (including by Qantas, apparently) - see other threads, including the last few pages of the 'Qantas site a mess' thread.

Call up to book, saying the site is broken (to avoid the call up fee).

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

OK thanks. Sorry, I did do a thread title search before posting this but probably should have searched thread content also! :)

Watch out for the fact that EK has married segment control on awards too. What might be available separately may not necessarily be available together.
