I have checked in online
I have no bags to check
Day trip only
Is there no checking name of person against person's proof of identity?

In general no.
Indeed even if you had bags you could print your own tags and bag drop.

They reserve the right though to check and you are required to be carrying ID afaik

There will in most likelihood be no check, but it’s a requirement to carry ID and they can refuse to carry you if you dont provide when asked,

Only when you board the aircraft its when you have to show either the small slip of thermal printer printed paper that gate spat out, or that you show on your mobile device the QR code... or a home printed BP.
But other than that, no, QF does not do a match.
If you have sat at the seats near gates though, you will note that the printer does print out rolls and rolls of fax like paper, that has got names on it, so QF know who has and who hasn't checked in.
In 20 odd years of flying QFd, I have only been asked to show id if and when things go pear shaped, and I have to go to the girl/guy standing near the check yourself in counters at the domestic terminals, so sometimes, its good to carry photo id for Au domestic flights.
What ever, but just take a long your DL if you have it, just in case you need to print out a BP for any reason at the airport.
Imagine this scenario, a lady on "don't fly JQ" website, related this: she didn't realise that her return flight from CNS to MEL (if I am not mistaken) would depart from the international terminal, orange sticker sort of thing... some of us can always dream that we are told, you have to go to the international terminal, as you have been put onto a JQi flight...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Otherwise known as the passenger manifest, and irrelevant to the OP's query. Also they are old school dot matrix printers in almost all cases. A very very legacy system.

It is always a good idea to have some form of ID handy. While very very rare I have seen AFP checking pax coming *off* domestic flights as well as at the gate. Obviously looking for specific persons, but if you have no ID on you it could get ... difficult. Very rare, but it does happen.

Only time I recall producing ID for a domestic flight in Australia was at the ADL JQ checkin seven or eight years ago. There was an American sounding guy who stated, very aggressively, "all passengers must show photo ID for every flight in Australia. I won't check you in without it." He was one of those customer facing staff who hates their job and vents frustration on the customers he faces. Never saw him again, he's probably head of Customer Relations at AA or United by now.
