Saw a woman at lax get sent to secondary on what I feel was based on her race (traditional Indian clothing) and for her cart crossing the yellow line by 30cms-he didn't even speak to her.

He waved his hand until she stepped backwards behind the line then waved her forward like some despot waving for a maid, looked at her card and waved her to secondary with barely a word spoken for instruction.
That’s exactly why I avoid LAX if at all possible

I consider all the security measures these days as a necessary evil. It doesn't irk me and like others, I participate in a friendly manner. At least I'm just breezing through and don't have to do their job for a living. That would be insufferable, especially dealing with all the DYKWIAs and armchair civil libertarians just waiting for an excuse to deal the race card.

I'm the same - now that I've watched lots of AU/USA/Canada/NZ Border Security episodes and I "get it". Previous to that I'd get the coughs

I'm female and mostly travel alone, and I'd write 'secretary' as my occupation on incoming cards. Those things set off lots of of red flags for them and I felt I was being 'picked on'. But now that i understand they think I'm either hooking, or there to get married, I happily answer all their questions and make sure to have all my travel plans printed out

The problem for Customs is they must admit all the Aussies, even if they are smuggling. Deny boarding isn't really an option.

But foreigners, unless denied boarding, who would you rather get frisked up at Australian airports?

Office Manager, Project Manager no good?

In my line of work, the label secretary is second only to God.

Yes, of course. It's not a term I hear as much as once, though. It all seems to have been ramped up to Personal Assistant, Executive Assistant, .....

Truth! But at the airport they can't fathom how I can afford to travel so they think I'm dodgy (the answer is The Trifect, by the way: no husband/no mortgage/no kids)
