Thai Business class - poor value.

Unfortunately with seatguru they still list the very old Thai 747 with 50 inch seat pitch in business class and 14 F configuration. These have been out of service for many years now. They also have the new one, but that doesn’t necessarily show up if asking for a seat map.

Bummer. Seatguru seemed really good when I've looked at layouts on other carriers and they matched with the reviews. I didn't check TGs 747 in particular but there's bound to be a review somewhere about it so the review can act as the last checking point. It's not 100% (as nothing ever is) but should increase peoples odds of making sure their money or points are well spent. If there's variation then people can weigh up the risk themselves but at least they have the info to do that.

The ability to enjoy any experience on any aircraft is inversely proportional to the price...the more you pay for the seat, the more critical you become. All I look for in a business class seat is the ability to lie (somewhat) horizontally and the use of a lounge while waiting in an airport...but if I am paying top dollar, I want all the bells and whistles. If only price paid reflected the quality of the product.

True. That goes for hotels/motels, cars etc
I’ll evaluate something much more critically if paid more - that goes for both cash and points (points I have to include how tough they were to earn).

I flew TG on the A350out of MEL a couple fo weeks ago. J seat is much improved over the 747, but felt cramped. You'd certainly have trouble getting into the seat if you have a few extra KG around ya middle.

Food was pretty good. Servie so so. Best to get out of your seat and g ask for something. The wait time for a call button press was LLOOONNGGGGG.

I was on an award ticket pre UA devaluation. No idea how a paid for ticket would stack up against QF.

Fliht back with CX was much better. Like the A350 with CX.

TG is one of those airlines (like LH, LX etc) where you’d want to fly F or sit in J on another carrier.

i think that’s reasonably fair, although their new long haul meal and cabin service is actually quite good, including meals served without trays etc. The downside is the seating, just a couple of inches extra bed length for example could have really turned it into a top class product. Their lounges in bangkok are not good, but you can always use SQ.

I cannot believe that Thai is STILL flying those old rattlers out of Sydney! Though the F cabin up in the nose of the old jumbo is quite a unique experience these days.

Agree, that J class is totally behind the times. Though I always found the food on Thai exceptional- in all cabins actually. Can't imagine that having changed to be honest but has been a couple of years since I flew them last.

I don't know where Thai gets their money from … but is it possible that we in Australia see an old product because they're still flying that DC3 out here, and there'll be an overhaul (I guess only in the hard-product) when it goes away (probably soon)?

The bottomless pit of the Thai Government.

It’s changed. The food is pretty average in F and Y these days. Business is actually quite good.

Still several opportunities for F in the nose of a 747... BA being most notable. But LH does it nicely.
