Does anyone here actually collect amenities kits as a hobby?

Over te years have collected many kits in J, we give them to a local Dr. friend who does retirement homes, so the needy get them, makes one feel good for sure.

Someone who travels "more than anyone on here"? That bothers to sell amenity kits? I think they are pulling your leg! :)

If the person is Scottish, maybe :)

Nope. Well going by the thread of how many flights people fly on AFF, this person flies more, allbeit in F and J only. Their job requires travel 90% of the time.

Their partner sells them :). Anyway I’ve already said too much just thought would add another angle to the thread!

That’s a nice one. Kudos. Some of those aged care people get very little, sadly including visitors.

Dr. Sue says she mostly has to explain what the contents are, apparently the oldies really like them.

Over the years both my parents and I have accumulated hotel amenities into the one collection which are then used for other trips away (those little bottles are so convenient) or for those coming to stay over (or when I forget my razors). Perhaps we should start a points-based loyalty program for their most frequent guests, hah!

I will side with Juddles on this one I think your friend is pulling you leg or you and "this other person are on planet button moon"

I looked at ebay and some amenity kits sell for more than other so lets just average at a sales price of $50 across J and F and all carriers. So to make $1K that is 20 kits, as a baseline.
  • Travel to the EU is via at least 1 connection so 1 return trip = 4 kits so 5 EU required per year, hardly 90%
  • Travel to the US then onwards to east coast, I will be generous and say 2 kits knowing that the internal kits are basically cough so again to the US x 5 trips, hardly 90%.
  • If travel is to say South America or South Africa direct, one QF pencil case each way or the equivalent we are now talking 1 trip per month but not 90%
  • I could expand further for flights to and across Asia and finally NZ however "I I've already said to much"
Another lens, if I travel from my place of residence to work for 4 of 5 working days each week does that mean I travel 80% of the time. If correct how do/ should I calculate the eastern seaboard run into the equation? the 6am and 8 pm flights.

Final lens if you friend travels 90% of the time that could imply 9 out of every 10 working days is lost on travel. Just a question - why would an entity employ someone on this basis.

Wow your life... But thanks for telling me I’m from planet moon. Here I was thinking I was on a forum for adults discussing travel.

They don’t employ him. He employs them. I really don’t feel comfortable giving you or anyone else more information than that. His occupation if you knew, would quickly answer your question around length of time away from ‘home’ but in reality to my knowledge he has at least 3 permanent bases off shore anyway so home is where he happens to be at the time.

He uses some of the kits obviously! Can’t sell without the security seal intact. One thing I neglected to mention is that he also flies private as well. No amenity kits on there just full size product :)

I understand that people who do things differently and live different lives to the average AFF members are hard to understand or motives fully understood, I don’t endorse or disendorse the fact they sell off some to make some cash nor do I really care. Their choice.

(Thoughts on the most recent posts above: it takes everyone to make this world, big and small, from budgeting backpackers and Avios gurus to Y-buyers and private jet-setters. We each have a place, no matter our discursive backgrounds, careers or points hoards. Either way, that feeling of launching up into the air, or landing again, is fantastical. J or F seats, for me, are an added bonus to that surreal, out-of-this-world experience that never ceases to amaze me. And that's why I like flying; purely for the joy of being in the air. Yet I equally appreciate and understand those who hate being in a plane from point A, but travel for the joy of setting foot in Point B, or even those who simply want another chalice of Dom. Let us remember, for half a sec, however, those folks who are perhaps not so fortunate, those who will never come to set foot inside an aircraft let alone sit in Y or aboard a private plane... Ok, time for a pint and onwards with our discussion of amenity kits... :))

I tried to donate both J and F to women's shelters here in Sydney and was told they want full size items.
I have quite a few of unopened ones if people want
I was actually wondering if anyone local is likely to have the ANA samsonite ones ? They look cute

Hutt St took 2 duffel bags full of hotel products and airline amenities kits mid last year, no questions asked.
Or you could open your own BNB business backed by your flying ..........part of the deal is not knowing where will your next amenity kit comes from ? ie. which country which Which airline........it's a stretch but might work.

Sorry if slightly OT...: I used to collect airsickness bags when I was younger (not used...).
Was surprised to find quite a few of them on Ebay.
Seems like it is not so strange or uncommon as I first thought?!

Not uncommon, strange ... well that’s another matter. ;) I once brought back a whole load of momentos from a Hello Kitty flight as a bit of a joke. Eventually, they were ‘gifted’ to a little 3 year old HK aficionado. Her fav thing was the sick bag.
