Hi all,

My wife and I will be spending 2 nights in Melbourne next month for her birthday and some well overdue R&R - with the kids enjoying the grandparents farm!!!

Now as we don't get this opportunity very often anymore and will be a long time before we are able to do a kid-free weekend again, I'm trying to figure whether playing extra for club access to either the Grand Hyatt or Sofitel is worth it.

From all reports, and I've talked to a number of people who love the club room at the Sofitel due to the views etc. but I don't know whether the extra cost will be worth it, at present we can $1 breakfast through Accor website, so apart from breakfast what would be the benefits of both clubs??

ps. please feel free to tell me stop being tight and just splurge a little every now and then if so called for!!

Club rooms for me all day everyday provided the price to upgrade isn’t outrageous. Rooms are better and have better views and usually there is a separate check in area for club rooms. Also quite a lot of hotels have seperate breakfast areas which are a lot quieter and has better service. The afternoon and evening snacks aswell as the free drinks are just an added benefit but you normally only have to drink 3 or 4 beers or spirits each to get your moneys worth. Free Wifi is normally included with a club room but that isn’t a deal breaker for us

I love lounge access at hotels but find sometimes I just eat there and miss out on the local cuisine.

Exactly this. If you just want to relax, not go out too much etc then they're great. However, if you like going out to explore different places etc, put the money towards that.

I know this will make me sound a greedy guts... but let's say you pay the $1 for breakfast . You could get up early and go down in the main dining room at the Sofitel and have a breakfast before the crowds turn up. .... then later go again for a second breakfast up in the club lounge . Just saying....

Haha, I like your style.

We both like exploring and trying nee food spots, plus my better half doesn't really drink much anymore so the additional $260 for the club room might just be better saved and put towards some nice dinners.

We should habe timed it better then school holidays time, would have had no hesitation going the club option then, ah well next time.

$260 over two nights, definitely put it to better dinners.

If it was $100 and you were having big lunches then possibly different.

I would pay the $1 for the breakfast but in Melbourne definitely not the club. There are also many amazing places to eat that I would prefer to explore those than eat in a hotel.
We like club rooms in a resort setting where there are less options.
Have fun in Melbourne!

Just to update, decided to go no Club room.

Found Hyatt Prive' program so booked through an agent which provides some great benefits!
