Planning on heading to LPQ in June with the Gentleman and MasterC (4 yo). Nothing organised as yet so any recommendations - whether accommodation, restaurant or tourist attractions - all welcome.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

We ( me, friends with young teens) happily stayed at the 3 Nagas hotel. Close to very many great restaurants, ( Swoon.... Memories!) and on the route of the monks walk ... You can offer rice etc. prepared by the hotel.

There are rooms more noisy than others ( motorcycles on main road) but ours were very quiet. I think the owners are French .. very nice pastries and fruit for breakfast :)

we took a river cruise up to an elephant protection place, plus caves etc. Highly recommend Luang prabang!

Will be very hot, humid and very wet!

We have stayed at the Sofitel, Governors residence, it was wonderful, 3 Nagas is a sister complex, great food, I'm guessing quite a few things will be closed as it will be the 'off' season.

Highly recommend is the Buffalo Dairy, set up by 2 couples without any ngo/govt help.

We have also stayed at The Sanctuary Hotel which was very pleasant as well.

Without a doubt one of the nicest places I have ever visited, safe, the people are so friendly, and I fully intend visiting at least once a year for the foreseeable future. There have been a few trip reports done on here. Waterfalls nearby and Elephant refuges, as well as Sun Bear refuges.

We stayed at La Residence.Out of town but a shuttle.Quiet, relaxing and very good food.My only reservation is that it has been taken over by Belmond.
And look up Big Brother Mouse.

Thanks all, I know it is not the best time to be going but sometimes you just have to work with what you can!

We enjoyed a Luang Prabang family holiday in Sept 2009. Like the good doctor, we stayed at La Residence - had no complaints. The food at la Residence was excellent.

We all enjoyed it, kids were aged 8 and 6 ..... even the MIL enjoyed it.

Good food recommendations here An overview of Luang Prabang's food scene

From recent personal experience, these are good Khaiphaen Restaurant TREE Alliance also Silk Road Cafe |

Tamnak Lao, Luang Prabang Kitchen, La Rosa and many more to chose from. We haven't had a bad meal in all of our trips there.

Pak Ou caves were a bit underwhelming imo. Go across the river if you get the chance, it is worth it just to wander around.

Pullman (Sofitel group?) have a new hotel opening soon, they may have some specials for that time of year. It's a bit further out, but they will have a shuttle I believe. The Sofitel isn't as far out, 20 minute walk down to the 'old town', and they have shuttles to the 3 Nagas each night.
As I said previously The Sanctuary was good, and Mekong Riverview also has a good reputation

A lot of places have cooking classes, highly recommended as well.

Big Brother Mouse may be closed, but if open you can drop off items for local schools, books, pens, toys, what ever and talk to locals wanting to practice their English.

Email this morning - now open ... Luang Prabang Luxury Hotel | Laos Resorts | Rosewood Luang Prabang

Having stayed at their San Miguel de Allende property - this will be a stunning hotel! This brand tops FS, The Pen, and MO... IMHO.

I have been waiting to see reviews for this. Prices higher than Amantaka currently! As a Rosewood aside, they also opened recently in coughet and I was considering going there but the reviews have been a little mixed.

Have ended up booking at Avani+ Luang Prabang. I like the location for ease with MasterC (and was the old Azerai if that is of interest to anyone).
