Its been suggested (good one @tgh :)) that we have a 'history' thread, and for a fossil like me, that sounded like a good idea, but history is for all ages - and cheap to pursue if you have an interest!

Hopefully it will be a thread to illustrate and discuss anything 'historic' - post and discuss pictures of old buildings, ships, places or old photos of interesting things, family history etc.

Plan of blocks in Dudley, England owned by my Shakespeare gggg grandfather. Such a thrill when you unearth this type of stuff.

The 83 year old Esperance Tanker Jetty has been the focus of MrsGM's life for the past 18 months or so.

Sadly it's been closed since late 2015 as it's been collapsing at various points as you can see.

Debate over whether it will ever be salvaged or replaced. Costs for either to run in the millions.

We are here to sell MrsGM's book.

Beneath the Deck - The Esperance Tanker Jetty BOOK

She's already managed to get it into a couple local stores, and we'll have a stall at the Easter markets on Sunday.

If we can ship most of the 300 odd copies we have with us it will go a long way to erasing the five figure debt this project has placed us in.

This is probably the last surviving unopened bottle of Melrose Bitter, which must pre-date 1934 when the Jacka Brothers brewery closed. This bottle was found in a shed on a station property in the 1970s.

This imposing building was originally built in 1878 as a flour mill for T.B. Marshall. Grain from the wheat growers on the Willochra Plain was milled here until the business depression of the 1890's brought about its closure as a flour mill.

J.H. Jacka transferred his brewing operations to this location in 1893 and the business flourished, producing quality products using the high quality Melrose spring water. As well as beer, the Brewery" produced cordials and aerated waters. The Brewery upplied many areas in the region, with goods being hauled by the huge horse- drawn wagons as far north as Broken Hill. The Brewery closed in 1933 during the Great Depression

Melrose ( Flinders Ranges South Australia ) was replete with the past and I wish I has stayed longer.
I was camped in the Melrose pub to attend the Booleroo Centre 50th Anniversary open day.
This day was , for me, all at once enthralling and depressing.
Their collection of old IC and steam engines along with relevant machinery is magnificent ; and they managed to show nearly everything operating.
It was enormously sad because 99% of the people running and demonstrating these historic relics were like me, historic relics also (or nearly so).
I prophesise that in ten years it will all be no more and that will be a tragedy.

I grew up in the Coonabarabran NSW area. It is home to the Gamilaroi people. In Coonabarabran itself people often overlook going to Crystal Kingdon, a spot with a great collection of fossils & crystals. Crystal Kingdom has a few samples from the nearby Bugaldie Chalk Mine. I think it was unique in NSW- Looking through chalk mine: Bugaldie on forest
The Warrumbungles are probably the best known attraction of the area.Warrumbungle National Park

My Dad's family were at Bugaldie. The house was a Cobb & Co stop. This wisteria originates from those times
