Hi All,

Anyone had much experience in hiring a car in Cairns FNQ ?

I am looking at hiring a car in late Aug/early Sept this year for about 8 days to do a tour of Cairns and the Tablelands.

Just wondering if anyone has done this recently and if they have any tips - like rental firms to avoid, etc...

TIA

Have rented from Hertz in Cairns City and Avis at Cairns airport many times and never had an issue (have always rented Commodore SV6’s).

Some other members have reported bad experiences with Europcar at Cairns.

Hertz at airport last October with absolutely no issues at pick up or drop off. Got a great rate on a 4wd crew cab with (lockable) tray/canopy (cheaper than X-trails, Camrys etc).

Europcar Cairns many times. Almost as many problems with them. I now refuse to rent a vehicle from them despite being a Europcar VIP member.

I recently picked up a card for Billabong car rentals, but only because they have a Mustang convertible, which +1 and I intend to hire for a few days to do Cape Trib, Daintree and the Tablelands. I haven't rented from them though, so can't say what they're like.

Never had any issues with Hertz at CNS airport. Professional service and the vehicle as expected.

Only problem I had with Hertz in Cairns was that the fuel tank wasn't full and we only noticed it when we got to the hotel. Tried calling them for two days straight. No answer. Then realised we were under charged so left it. The Q7 though was reasonably priced and excellent to drive with the two of us.

I'm off to Cairns in a couple of weeks. I booked my rental car through driveawayholidays.com.au. Great rates and no hidden extras. Results from all the major companies. I've also used this mob for car rentals in NZ UK and Ireland. Companies that don't have a presence at the airport will come and pick you up.

I dont know if they are still there. I picked up a cheapie rental from Sugarland Car Reantals in 2011. Older car but it was in good nic and great price. Did the Hinterland and the inland road to Cooktown - no dramas.

Hertz was great for the 3 times I have used them. I use entertainment book for decent rates, and the city store is close enough to the airport that if it saves you more than 2 taxis ($30-$30 total) you could consider pickup in the city.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I’ll be renting a car in Cairns for a week from this Saturday - any recent experience with Hertz at Cairns airport as a PC member? I have a Camry and XTrail booked, but would prefer a Commodore or Audi, neither of which have been showing as available. My other option is a Commodore through Budget.

I’ve used Hertz at CNS on many occasions. Never any issues. Used to use Thrifty which was also good but that was some years ago. Haven’t tried the others.

I wound up booking Hertz last week for a week. Like many others here, no issues at all with the hire, and let the company rep know that i was inspired to book after feedback for here.
