Woolworths gift card thread

Anything special in particular about them? I Guess JB would be the most useful for most?
Our coffee machine died today. I was going to jump on this and get $600 worth of cards for a new machine from JB, but then saw the promo isn't until next week.

It will cost us more than $60 in bought coffees if I wait a week!

I used 15 or 16 once in store and the receipt was about 2 metres long.

I used about 39-40 gift cards in JB Hifi's once, the receipt reached from the floor to the ceiling... :) But That was from a cat food offer where you got a $10 voucher if you bought two boxes of cat food...

If you use more than about 4 or 6 gift cards then they just have to photocopy some identification of yours...

Ok, just recently decided to go the Amex Platinum Charge Card route and go for 3ppd and transfer to a range of airlines rather than direct earn...

So i used the 5% off Woolies egift card to buy a $100 Only1 visa prepaid gift card, well 3 actually to cover a $233 Synergy electricity bill, left them the 24 hours to activate and then went online tonight to try and pay it off in 3 installments of 2 x $100 plus the last card...

Enter in all the details and press to pay and comes up with "Sorry your payment is declined"... Same after another attempt... Go online to check Visa gift card is activated and it says it is... I obviously thought this was going to be a bit more straight forward...

Without reading through all the thread, are the Visa gift cards not quite as usable as i thought they might be or am i doing something wrong... The Synergy site even lists Visa debits as one of the card types it charges a surcharge on... Any advice on if they are only accepted in a limited number of places and does it laboriously involve trial and error at various companies sites to figure this out or do direct phone calls to pay bills sometimes get a better result??

You're testing my memory, but I think when I paid Synergy by this method, it was also declined, and the message was 'full amount must be paid' or similar. That said, it could have been one of my other utilities, such as the Water Authority or Alinta Gas. Apologies that I can't be more specific than that..

Same thing happened to me today trying to pay some of my ATO bill. Only purchased and activated about 4 hours ago but this has never happened before, have always been able to use straight away. Used the correct amount $99.85 so maybe they are just now taking up to the 24 hour period to activate as per their terms and conditions. Will try again tomorrow

Reports on other thread (and my subsequent attempt) that this is a widespread issue on that portal-fingers crossed its temporary
PS: Its not just a delayed activation-my card was activated over a week ago

very sorry state of all the woolies I visited , with the $88 cards taking up half the stand, yet looks like virtually none have sold.....

i guess soon they will either start throwing them out or reducing the space they take

would be great if they released a no fee promotion !

Does anyone know how to access $500 gift/debit cards and still get 3ppd?

I see there is a card at Australia Post that can be loaded up to $500 but is there any way to get the 3ppd doing this??

Any other ideas/products?

Is there a reason you need a $500 card?

If not buy smaller denomination cards from Woolworths and get the 5% discount via WISH card savings and get your 3pts that way.

When buying with a credit card it has to be a "purchase" transaction. Buying prepaid travel cards that require "loading" takes a "cash out" transaction via eftpos savings, so won't work from a CC.

This Load and Go card at Aust Post say it can be loaded up to $500...

I was looking on to see how you could load money on to it, whether it was only cash but couldn't really see anywhere..

And just an opportunity that i would like to investigate plus the $100 gift cards are fiddly and take a bit of time to pay bigger bills...
