Renew passport - Does remaining Validity carry forward?

I actually liked my pp photo, not looking forward to seeing the new one.

I wish. New one will need to be organised next month. Old expires in September. Annoying.

I came back from SIN late November and had 4 weeks to renew before my next trip - by then the PP's validity would have dropped to under 6 months. While that was OK for my destination (3 months needed), it can cause issues with check in as staff often have an ingrained 6 months rule.

Pre filled form and booked Post Office appointment for the Tuesday morning after I returned.

I attended and had 5 minute "interview"; the new PP arrived by registered mail 9 days later.

Expiry is November 2027.

Dont forget that new passport makes current ESTA invalid and you will have to reapply.

On thing I learned from the TV program, 'Embassy', is that it's a good idea to travel with spare pp photos in case you need an emergency passport in a real hurry.

Pretty sure my UK did too? Although it was only a month or so.

ISTR UK Passports were valid for 10 years and six months.

That was until there was some issue with the EU .

Definitely no.

Either Do many of the visas, which i have painfully found out in the past 48 hours. New passport and had to renew ESTA, but knocked back and have to get a visa, i think because of too many visits in the past 6 months. Its been very painful and once i get the visa, will give a bit more details.

I renewed with 3 years remaining on old passport and received a new passport with 10 year expiry.

Please, this is the Australian government we're talking about here. Of course they're going to rip you off! Just look at the passport fee itself compared to some other countries...

No, the only time that will happen is if you are replacing a passport where the pages have been filled and there is still more than 2 years of validity remaining. The new replacement passport will have the same expiry date and a lower cost. ( $178).
Though in both cases the number will change.

REALLY? Is my passport valid or not? Cos it says it expires 6 months from now, but Immigration says I can't come in.

If a country’s border control is 6 months or more than that’s their choice isn’t it? They get no benefit from you having to renew your passport.
