hello all,

PERTH - SYD - HONOLULU return.

Hoping someone can help- travelling the above route in May and unsure of seat selections in the Qantas business class, as travelling with 2ad and 2 children. Looking for advice on best seat configuration to choose for the 4 of us with easiest access to the 2 kids.

Main concerns are with the possibility of these flight/s having the staggered seating so wanting to make sure correct seat and row numbers are chosen to allow easy access to the children, (qantas website seat selection shows nothing about staggered seating etc).?

But also if the 2 centre seats were selected am I correct in saying I cannot get full access to my child in the other middle seat sitting next to me as the centre table divider blocks any walk thru access in centre?

PER - SYD - I think it’s A320, but E ticket says A330.
SYD - HNL - A330.

Any other seating advice appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

QF don’t operate the A320, so unless you are on JQ, it’s an A330

It might be a JQd flight PER - SYD.
Have seen them carry QF flight numbers!
For the SYD - HNL sector, I would take a row with the storage on the window side, so you are closer to the 2 J in the middle, and then the other half on the window side with storage on the window side as well.
If its QF SYD - HNL with 1x2x1 in J on the 330, ...
But, if they do turf you to JQi from SYD - HNL then its 2 in AB, DE. in row 2/3 so its straight across, row 1 has a bit of cm forward for DEF.
Row 3 would be good if its true QFi, as both A and K are few cm forward and EF few cms back.
Have taken a QF plane where it used to be 2x2x2 but after it became 1x2x1 in J, going across its a bit askew now.
You will see what I mean when you get on board.
Hope you have a bit of time to use the SYD QFi J lounge or if WP/P1 the F lounge!
I have taken JQi while as a domestic passenger on an international flight, and its no contest, QF wins, JQi forgot my welcome on board drink, even thought it was really a domestic flight, but still, ... its the feelings and impressions that count.
Anyways, hope you do get a true QFd/QFi all the way.
Edit: sorry, try to pack as much as possible in hold luggage, and bare minimum in hand luggage, as you will have to catch quite a chockers full bus from SYDd to SYDi, they fill the bus to fullness, no joke.
And they don't really keep to timetables either, their aim is to cramfill the bus to all standing room only, plus fully seats passengers too on that bus.
I would pick the first flight from PER - SYD, but don't know which flight you are on, not to mention the extra checks they have to do at the domestic checkin, then the bus, then the immigration side, and then a final big security check at gate 60 or so at SYDi, I have not taken the US flight, but on flights to NZ, I see they make a big hoo hah about bring a screen across to do probably extra checks on passports or visa or ESTA.
RE: QFi 330, kids seating, maybe give them the 2 windows, 1 on A, 1 on K, adults in the middle? But then all these plans can still come unstuck, sometimes its hard to make sense when QF change seat requests.

ugh

OP says it's J, so would not be on JQ and also says the booking/ticket(whatever) says 330, so it's a 332. Simple as that.

I would say if you can select them 2 rows of middles so each parent is either behind or ahead of a child - since each has aisle access then it's easier to see to the kids if need be.

The staggering is only an issue, I feel, when one or more pax is in the aisle then you need to be aware that the rows do not align.

See SeatGuru for an example: SeatGuru Seat Map Qantas Airbus A330-200 (332) Domestic/Intl V1

Now then you'll find that the outside row aligns to one more in the inside row. eg: 3A/K more closely aligns to 4EF than 3EF.

But with 2 adults and kids honestly go for the middles I think.

Others who have flown with their kids in this config may have more experienced understanding.

Also be aware that it is possible, but unlikely, the SYD-HNL QF3/4 flights may be operated by old config 330-200's (with 2-2-2 config which you can see in the seatmap) and in that case you can select accordingly as there's not the same issue.

Enjoy your flights.

APP - the OP has mentioned that the e-ticket states it is an A330, so that automatically rules out JQ.

OP - it may be worth keeping an eye on the seatmaps, as QF operate 2 versions of the A330
