Hi all,

I've been looking into the Marriott Travel Packages rewards option where you swap a bunch of Marriott points for a 7-night stay and some airline miles. It seems like a pretty good option for me (looking to swoop in with some MR points to make this happen) but I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this award type before and can answer a couple of questions for me.

1. Does the hotel stay have to be booked right away or does it come in the form of an e-Certificate that you then use to book a stay later on?
2. If so, does the e-Certificate have an expiry date that it must be used to book by?
3. Is there an occupancy limit on the room? Could I, for instance be able to use it for a couple + toddler?

I don't have definite dates or destination yet and it could be 12-18 months before I wanted to use this so just trying to understand how much flexibility there is. I've read through the T&C's but there isn't too much detail that I've found.

Thanks,
Damien

Hi mate, many blogs have covered this recently including this one:

Marriott Rewards Travel Packages (7 Night Hotel Reward + Up To 132,000 Airline Miles) | LoyaltyLobby

Toddler will 99 times out of 100 be free in existing bedding (like any hotel rate).

It all has to be done on the phone with an agent so I recommend calling and going through a 'scenario' to gain some confidence in the process.

Fantastic, thanks for the link. I'll be sure to head over and read some more about it.
Cheers

I'm about to call and book one of these packages. Reading some of the comments it can be difficult.

Regarding toddlers in hotel bookings I have stopped including the toddler in the search and booking as some hotels do not show availability.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Seems reasonable...just double check the Child ages (i.e. children in existing bedding stay free like Aged up to 12) ...and if you need crib ensure they have them and provide and if any fees (as that means child is no longer in existing bedding) ..some are more generous than others.

Is the 1-800-321-7396 number a 24 hour number? I am using a phone card and cannot get through. "Your call could not be connected".

Don't have skype and don't really want to use mobile phone to call.

It's worth using Skype as US 1 800 numbers are free to call.

Thanks for the reminder about Skype. I have been researching Skype today and don't quite understand everything about monthly plans and Skype credit.

But if I download Skype on my mobile and get a data sim for wife and download skype on her mobile we should be able to have face to face conversations here in Australia for free?

Yesterday was Thanksgiving day. Today is still a holiday. Does this mean the next time I can Marriott to redeem travel package is Monday 28 November?

Cutting it real fine.

Couple of questions:

1) Is there an Australian number to use when booking these packages?

2) Can you cancel these packages for a full refund of points like you can for an ordinary award night booking?

Don't know about the refund, but there is a general Australian number to call for bookings 1800 302 738

I think there are also different numbers if you have status.

Also I think if you call when the are closed in Australia - like on a weekend - it will default to the US call centre.

No luck unfortunately.

They said there is a Marriott awards number - which is 801 468 4000

Thinking about booking one of these packages myself. How'd you get on Dr Ralph?
Successful, but took some effort.

Had to ring several times before I got someone who even knew what these packages were. Once you buy a package you then have to ring up again to book the nights. Not received my airline points yet, but they did say it could take 6 weeks.

UPDATE: Received the QFF points in my account in just under a week.

I would consider going for AA or BA miles, or even Alaska if wanting to redeem for Qantas flights. More miles to be had and better redemption rates. In the past you could get 150k AA miles.

1) I have used the Australian reservations number without issue, diverted to US call center outside of AU business hours.
2) You don't get the full points value back, rather the certificate comes back to you account with the same expiry date, though I have read you can extend their validity. You can get some points for cancelling the certificate but it is less than the points value. The cancellation value for a 7 night Cat 6 cert was 70,000 MR points.

I have just redeemed two of these for United Miles using the Australian (Singapore centre) number. The T&Cs say 6 weeks, the agents say 3 working days to arrive.
First one had a glitch and took 8 days after a follow-up. Second one arrived overnight

My experience has always resulted in points posting within four days to Singapore air. Never had any issues with redeeming through the Aussie / Singapore telephone number.

Does anyone know if possible to change a booking that was booked with a 7 night certificate without penalty?

The booking in Hua Hin is for Saturday to Saturday but we're returning to Australia on the Friday and we will forfeit the 7th night. Plans have now changed and we can get there earlier on Friday so looking to change booking from Friday to Friday.

I have sent Marriott but interesting to hear any experiences.
