I am both SPG Gold (and now Marriott Gold).

Tossing up between the Marriott at Circular Quay or the Westin at Martin Place. Location wise, both places are fine for what I want to do in Sydney.

I have stayed at the Westin before, it wasn't too memorable compared to Melbourne's. Never stayed at the Marriott though.

Which would you choose? Would be interested to hear what people think?

We have stayed at the Westin a few times, and I think the "heritage" rooms are very noisy - I wont stay in one again ! Other rooms are just hotel rooms, views of other buildings, nothing great. Location is OK for shopping. I would try the Marriott - and see what it is like. We have never stayed there -have eaten there but many years ago. my vote is the Marriott :)

I stayed at the Marriott 2 weeks ago and as Gold we received an upgrade to a one bedroom suite from a basic room.
The lounge: crowded, food kept running out, coffee machines ran out of milk both in the afternoon and morning, staff were disorganised and too many unruly kids in the evening.

I wont be rushing back.

I believe you dont received breakfast or lounge access at the Westin if you are SPG Gold , on the other hand Marriott Gold received both . In my recent stay at Marriot i got upgraded to a nice Opera House View from an award booking .

I would say Marriott for a transportation point of view. I had relatives staying at the Westin and the 1 way Pitt St entry and exit was always a bit of a struggle at peak hour times.

However, the Westin did look very nice for a suite room. There was a separate seating lounge area, a large bathroom and bedroom as well.
There is the cafe on the ground floor and they partner with a boutique gym next door. And it is more in the heart of the city so better for shopping in Pitt St mall if that's what you want.

Have you thought about the Sheraton on the Park? I would say that would be just as annoying transportation wise, however it had a nice bar. Could be noisy being on Elizabeth Street though.

The SOTP isn't noisy even though we generally have rooms facing Hyde Park. The views are also very good.
