This is the first year I have tracked my wine purchases (or is it an addiction?) and I thought it would be useful to share.

Best buys were (prices quoted after discounts):

2013 Lindemans Limestone Ridge Shiraz (96JH, CellarMasters, Jul-17, $100 off) - $23.33
2015 Woods Crampton Black Label Mataro (97JH, Winery Lane, Aug-17, $100 off) - $14.87
2015 Woods Crampton Black Label Shiraz (96JH, Winery Lane, Aug-17, $100 off) - $14.87
2015 Leconfield Cab Sauv (95JH, CellarMasters Mystery, Aug-17, $50 off) - $8.15
2014 Teusner Avatar GSM (98JH, Epiqure, Aug-17, 5,000QFF) - $21.67
2015 Dandelion Pride of the Fleurieu Cab Sav (94JH, Cellarmasters Mystery, Nov-17, $50 off) - $9.58
2013 Penfolds St Henri (90JH, CellarMasters, Nov-17, $100 off) - $49.09
2016 Teusner Joshua GSM (97JH, Cracka, Nov-17, $50 off) - $19.80
2015 Hardys HRB Cab Sav (97JH, CellarOne, SignuReferral Credit) - $6.28

Interested to hear others thoughts on their purchasing habits and where they found the greatest discounts to be had.

CellarMasters and WIneryLane provided me with the best bang for buck (through $100 and $50 vouchers)

I don't think that I'd like what I see if I did this. Or perhaps more accurately, I don't want my partner to see any type of similar list from me!

I did think about this, I guess everyone can share whatever theyre comfortable with (eg favourite/best buys) - my hope is we all learn new retailers and/or deals to look out for in 2018

Unfortunately (for me), my average cost was a bit higher.

I came home with a wet sail having bought more wine in the last 3 months than the previous 9 ! That said, for the first time in a long while, the majority of our purchases have been Drink Now wines.
That doesn’t tell you what we drank though. However our Epiqure account got a flogging this year.

+1

This year I went wild with wine purchases, especially the premium stuff (>$50pb). I don’t want to know the total sum and more so don’t need my partner to know as she already complains I spend too much on alcohol.

I kept it simple with a dozen Moss Wood, a dozen Cullens and a dozen Moët.
A friend has bought us some bubbles in London so it won’t be too crazy when we get there late December.
I find I am drinking less these days.

108 bottles at a cost of $3000. Definitely been a lot more restrained this year.
Most expensive would be the 2014 Hentley Farm Clos Otto, 2006 Rockford SVS shiraz and the 2010 Rockford Basket Press Magnum.
Cheapest some Wynns CSM for around $9.

122 bottles for $4,706.
Best bargains were Wynns Black Label/Leconfield Cab Sav/St Henri/Limestone Ridge all from CM during promos, Tapanappa @$44 Wine Market specials, Seppelt Show Sparkling @ $55 from Cellar One (I think or Cellar Door). Not a lot from VM - Giovanni Rosso Barolo @$65, Wynns V&A Cab Shiraz (Secret selection from Dans) @ $~38. Stocked up (hopefully as not released till Jan) on Framingham 2017 rieslings and a got few 2015 German rieslings.

I don't think I should post in this thread...

Trends for the year...
  • This year I bought more foreign wine.
  • I'm buying less drink now wines
  • Much less SA Shiraz.
  • Average bottle price for the year was $67
  • Back vintages for Bordeaux, Barolo and Barbersesco are being purchased as well as current release German Rieslings.
  • Started stocking up on 2008 vintage champagne and expect that trend to continue for the next couple of years as its released.
