Taking a pair of Antique shearing shears (hand held ones) to an uncle of mine in Texas (he collects old tools etc) Anyone know if any issues taking them into the USA? Obviously they will be in checked luggage and not carry on - wondering if I need some sort of permit given they technically have two blades on them?

I've been bringing tools out of the US for years, the Estwing tools were so cheap compared to Bunnings. The leather handled hammer was $25 in the US and Bunnings had it for $100 although prices are a bit closer. A few weeks ago i bought back an axe, pruning shears and some orchid cutters. I did get the TSA ticket in the bag, unsurprisingly!

Geology picks are pretty lethal weapons (blunt hammer head one end, sharp steel point the other end) and they've been going back and forth across the Pacific in my checked luggage for years.

Your shears - no problem (but I'd get then insured).

just bought an axe from lapland which will be in the luggage going home this trip. I like to buy something original when i go places, just not a tacky airport souvenir that i never buy
