Wife, infant and I are booked for LHR -> SIN -> BNE in June 2018.

Called up trying to reserve 96D and 96F on the A380, but was advised we can only reserve one bassinet seat, so we can't sit side by side. Likewise, on the 757 tried to book 19D and 19F, but again advised we can only book one bassinet seat, so had to book 19A and 20A

Has anyone experienced this before? Is there any chance they will let us sit side by side?

Would this need to be requested at check in, or do you think it's worth trying to call up again closer to the date.

We've half way travelling with our bub and always given both seats together. Flown PE so far and J/Y next month. KF agent offered 2x seats with bassinet

How did you select your seats? Was it in advance on the phone, or at check in?

On the phone as made all the bookings over the same call
Bizarre. Maybe because you made the seat selection at the time of booking.

I booked via velocity. When I called SQ to select seats they said I couldn’t

Try again at check-in. But I'd reserve on bassinet seat and then either 96A or K (whichever is close by). They're close enough to mix socially - pass the infant etc, (although not necessarily chat)

I just told them we need a bassinet and they automatically assigned two seats with it next to each other.

On a recent economy booking, only 1 seat was available with the bassinet and he himself put a special request in to free the other seat for me citing "parents need to sit together"

I’ve booked 96a and 96d on the a380, and 19a and 20a on the 757 so I will be closeby. But not the same as sitting next to my wife and child! Do they block off the other bassinet seats until checkin? So I might have a chance to get the middle seats?

Just got this quote from emailing SQ. Guess I will have to wait and try and check in

“We have reviewed your booking and we see that the seat next to your wife with infant is also seat with bassinet facility. In that case we are unable to allocate you on seat next to your family on both flights.

Seat with bassinet facilities are prioritised for passengers with infant.

As an option, you may change your seat on the departure date itself at the check-in counter, subject to seats availability.”

Correct. The bassinet seats are held until departure for passengers with infants. There could be another couple who are similarly separated so they can also have at least one parent with infant in a bassinet seat. Changes of it happening? Depends how busy the flight is. But I'd say if you get there early enough you should have a good chance of getting the seat if it is otherwise free.

Same deal for the 777.

you can of course nurse the child as a lap child, give up the bassinet, and both be seated together. The seats on the A380 are wide enough for that. The 777 are similar, but if you get a 'new' version the seats are narrower.

Yeah that's always an option, but we'd like to have the bassinet as an option in case we both want to sleep. Bit safer for all parties if bub is in the bassinet while the adults sleep.

Unfortunately it's a trade off then. But I'd reckon the chances of you being able to secure the other bulkhead seat are fairly good, provided you monitor closely at on-line check-in or get to the airport right when check-in opens.
