Watching the cricket here in London on BT Sport, The first ball will be bowled at midnight local time. Adam Gilchrist, Ricky Ponting and Damien Fleming are commentating for BT Sport....feels quite strange as they are commentating ftom the English point of view. Can't believe that Geoffrey Boycott is still commentating....it makes his batting look exciting!!

Boycott is such an arrogant cough and that's being nice

I wondered today what Adam Gilchrist was up to. I loved watching him playing and always thought he did a great job with commentary, even when he did it while on the field at a 20/20 match. He always sounded like he was having fun, but had great insights into the players and game as well. I have no idea what he'd be like commentating from the English point of view.

I'm not very technical minded and have had trouble today figuring out how to follow the cricket today and do other stuff. I couldn't get the cricinfo website working the way I wanted to. I wanted it to display the ball by ball commentary with the 1st over at the top of a desktop webpage and the most recent over at the bottom of the page. I used to be able to do this on the desktop site (not the mobile site) but now I can't figure it out. I tried making some adjustments to my web browser settings and the browser crashed on me. Luckily I was able to reload all my tabs when I brought up the web browser again.

I then tried to figure out how to play the ABC Radio coverage of the test on my mobile phone. This meant I'd be able to listen and do other things at the same time, like housework. I finally figured out how to set up the Grandstand Audio only to realise it was lunchtime. I turned it off and did some other things. At about 1.45pm Melbourne time I activated the radio coverage again only to find out there was a rain delay. I'll be going out soon to do the school run so hopefully I'll be able to listen to it on the car radio( if things have started up again).

My daughters don't like the cricket so I won't be able to watch it once they're home. Luckily I'm going out again at 5.30pm so I'll be able to listen to the car radio again.

Hey,watch it.I modelled my batting on Boycott. As far as I am aware I still hold the record for the longest duck in the Maitland competition.

Well done but any man that hits a woman doesn't deserve to be a role model

Aussies don't seem to be bowling enough top quality balls to put pressure on.
I guess being the Ashes means they can charge what they like for drinks- they will still get the crowds

Well the rain had finally gone but none of us understand why it took so long to get play started again.

Back in our seats outside - next to the bar

It’s cricket. That’s all.

Seriously silly move bringing on the new ball. That brought on the light issue. It isn’t a clever Aussie side these days.

If the lbw review ball had been 5 cms to the right it would have been the best captain’s decision ever. But cricket is a game of inches and you are right. Lol

What is it with our cricket teams at the beginning of every season? Not clever but the arrogance is there. They are not that good.

This weak English team has almost scored 300 in the first innings and have let us off the hook.

I just wish someone would do the world a favour & send Ian Chappell out to pasture.

They are not a weak English team - I'm an Aussie supporter but you can't write the Poms off at all

I know. I should have put "weak" English team. This "weak" English team has scored more runs in the first innings than the "weak" English team scored in any innings in the previous Ashes series here.

We need to drop the arrogance. There is no place for it in our national team. Show respect for all opponents.

Well the afternoon session has been Australia’s. Marsh and Smith getting runs - Smith getting yet another half century and Marsh looking likely after a bit of a shaky start. Still got to bowl 8 overs

4/165 now with 3 overs left. Marsh 44, Smith 64

On the (free) bus back into town I sat next to an England supporter who wasn't happy. Despite my best attempts to engage him he complained about the beer, the bus crowding, the pies, the drunk Aussies, even the Barmy Army singing, the leg room in the stadium seats (31 inch pitch?), Mitchell Stark and it was only a 12 minute trip. He also has 4 tests to go. :)

Shaping up for the perfect storm for Adelaide Oval membership managers. Cool change Thursday meaning Sat weather will be perfect. First Ashes Night match. Saturday afternoon start. Close first test - closer than ‘expected’ and 12,000 more members than seats available. Headache.
