Hey there all,

I am totally incompetent in many online things and technology. So be patient with me.

In the thread about "where will you go in 2018" I mentioned I was travelling to Olympic Dam / Roxby Downs. And suddenly appeared that many AFF people have knowledge and experience of my birthplace, which is Woomera.

That amazed the hell out of me.

I have no idea how to contact a mod, but what I would love is that all the posts regarding Woomera get split off to create another thread, as I want to discuss Woomera and their experiences there, but without going off topic in the thread that these appeared.

How can I achieve this?

I did all my schooling and my first job in Woomera...we were there from 1967 to 1985... Have made a few visits over recent years, not much left of the place...?.both my parents are buried there.....
There is a Facebook page titled Woomera.. It has been very active in last 12 months...

Am not exactly sure of dates / years, but I know I was born there :) and my brother and sister also. I suspect my family was there roughly 1965 to 1975. My father worked both at the rocket range and also at Nurrungar.

Your dates very much align with my father's timeline.. 1962 -66 at rocket range, 1966-73 at Island Lagoon and then 1973-85 at Nurrungar. Not sure when you last visited the town, I was there earlier this year...much of the town has been demolished or abandoned...In recent years, the RAAF are responsible for running the infrastructure and township in conjunction with contractor Broadspectrum..I had opportunity to visit Nurrungar for first time this year..I believe it is possible to visit if sufficient notice is given..total population currently less than 200.. A long way short of the 60s and 70s when it was 6,500 plus....

I mentioned in another post that Medhead used to post on here re Olympic Dam.
My only experience in the area was on a trip between Adelaide & Darwin & we listened to a great tape about Len Beadell. It was available via the ABC & highlighted a speech he made to a Rotary Convention in the early 90's-just appealed to my sense of humour & the challenges he faced as a surveyor

My parents were in Roxby for about fifteen years so went through/stopped at Woomera many times. We used to drive down there to go ten pin bowling during the short time I lived with them in my late teens and visited later.
