Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

VA470 BNE-PER tonight. Excellent effort once again except that no nuts or olives were loaded.

My next BNE-PER is on QF in J (first QF flight in ten months) so I may have to get ready to slum it and eat before I leave. Some of the stuff posted on the corresponding QF thread is embrassing...

The coast to coast meal service is great. I've got my first coast to coast morning flight coming up this weekend - I'm a bit disappointed to be missing out on the lunch/dinner to be honest as I don't think the breakfast service will be quite the same. Hope I'm mistaken though...

I generally try to avoid breakfast flights (and to some extent 'supper' flights) as the food and beverage service is normally not as good as on lunch/dinner flights.

CX is one of only a few airlines that can do a reasonable job for breakfast in my experience (I have not flown VA transcon J for breakfast as yet).

I have an SQ J breakfast flight coming up next week, so it will be interesting to see what they have on offer.

VA467 on Saturday - 9:15am departure.

Took the fritters - presented well, but acceptable rather than great. Bacon didn't taste great at altitude. Side muesli and croissant - generally OK, but much prefer a lunch/dinner service.

Dabbled in a few items from the pantry along with some croser followed by the new pinot noir they are pushing - was pretty good.

Full house of 20 up front but the service was still excellent - really good showing from VA.

Breakfast on VA1385 ADL-BNE last week
Went with the pork sausage option (with feta, mushrooms, tomatoes, forgot the rest!), other option was a yoghurt/granola. Quite nice but highlight was the fruit - so fresh, was quite shocked, asked for some more and got 2 more plates!
3rd time in VA J in the past 3 months, and again, while pleased with the hard product, service is rather invisible (e.g. no second run after breakfast for coffee, this is a 2.5 hour flight). Although speaking to my seatmate on my return BNE-ADL with QF, he says he prefers VA service because they "don't pester me". Horses for courses I suppose

Pantry Pig strikes even before the Coast 2 Coast meal service begins!
"No thanks, I don't think I want nuts or olives today, how about some chips instead please..."
vatc01.jpg

Pantry Pig doubles down on a mid-con flight, placing its snout into both perishable pantry options after the main meal service!
"Yes, I would like something else please, thanks for asking: how about the finger sandwiches and the fruit platter, oink, oink..."

VA782 CNS-BNE 1/12 12:40 departure

Choices: chicken curry or prosciutto salad with buffalo mozzarella

I usually travel Qantas this route and this is definitely better meal choices than Qantas offering of toasted sandwich

Came here to talk about that pork sausage. That meal was frankly delicious! Not sure what the rice stuff was, quinoa maybe? Highly recommend.

Here is the above mentioned salad, sans-prosciutto

And the current B737 mid-range flight pantry menu

While there are many frills that now, IMO, make Virgin Australia's B737 business class service the best 737 J in Australia e.g. real priority boarding, bubbles before departure, "protecting" the front toilet/cabin with a rope, carrying enough meals so no one misses out on an option, extra food (both pantry & anything for free from the main cabin BOB menu), FAs guarding the overhead bins, no locked equipment storage over row 1, FAs physically stopping the stampede during disembarking, Samsung tablets on demand... Unfortunately I must complain about the Scotch downgrade.

JOHNNY WALKER RED LABEL IS NOT A BUSINESS CLASS SCOTCH

For the last few flights I have endured it, thinking perhaps it was some sort of catering mistake, but alas no - it seems to be a permanent fixture up front!

VIRGIN, GO BLACK NOW, OR GO BACK TO CHIVAS!

Is there any way of finding out what soup was served on VA466 (BNE-PER) in J on 3rd October? I flew then. I liked the soup. I meant to make a note of it when I got to Perth as I didn't have pen and paper on me, but I forgot.

You could try sending VA an e-mail via the website. Someone would have a menu draft or invoice from the caterer, you might get lucky

This afternoon BNE-ADL

This was roasted cauliflower and zucchini salad with tahini, we were asked if we wanted to add chicken, which we did. The other option was roasted duck leg on sweet potato mash.

Was offered sparkling before take off amd accepted !

After take off it was a “snack” service

Choice being a cold meats , like a ploughmans platter or a Quiche .

Went with the quiche, was ok , soggy liked it had been heated up in a microwave. Side salad was nice and just a biscuit for desert.

Was it this thread that someone recently commented that VA were now using Johnnie Walker Red as the scotch in Business class?

On my flight earlier this week CNS-SYD, they were using Johnnie Walker Black, so someone must be listening.

SYD-ADL today at 8.40am, chorizo and egg tortilla.

It really needed a tomato relish on the side.

Thank goodness. It was still Red Label last week, so it must be a change as of this week. :)

Very good news indeed!

Afternoon snack flight - satay chicken with side salad, absolutely delicious (and probably even nutritious).
