New Amex statement credits

Brought an iPhone X today at Harvey Norman. Despite Apple being excluded got the email within a few minutes saying that I would receive a $100 credit for spending over $400 (which has previously been the case with Harvey Norman offers and Apple).

Purchased on my Amex Explorer for the screen insurance, and will claim the GST back under the TRS when I head to the US next month.

Which HM store did you visit? The ones (in Melbourne) told me no IPhone X stock until Jan 2018.

I personally ordered on the 10th of nov or so, paid $400 "deposit" with an amex. If you put down a deposit, you will get it soon. If you are waiting for them to have excess stock for you to just walk in and buy, then probably Jan 2018 is the correct assumption.

Also North Ryde, they didn't mind splitting up the payments to $400 lots today when I paid the final outstanding amount.

Yeah, you're right. When I realised I wasn't able to get the X I went for the 8 plus, including a few extra bits and split a $1600 transaction over 4 cards = $400 off the iPhone. *Insert Steph Curry 3-point sounding swish*

Harven Norman in Auburn flagship store does not allow split payment by AMEX, others are OK, only one AMEX card per transaction until cash back promotion is finished.

Perth - City West. Called up on the release date a few weeks back, and they said they'd put my name down and put one aside when the next delivery arrived. Got the call today. As always, this store was happy to split over a number of cards, but I want the screen insurance the Explorer offers.

For anyone with the DJs offer, they're doing a free $20 gift card when you purchase a $200 gift card. With the offer that's $220 for $170 spend.

Purchase for the AMEX offer needs to be made online. How are you getting around the delivery fee for just purchasing gift cards only?

Have to say I'm pretty happy with the recent Expedia offers. Saved about $120 on a hotel booking by entering the promo code AMEXAU10 at the checkout and paying with AMEX. I'd forgotten that I'd also saved an AMEX Offer to the same card (spend $300 with Expedia, get $60 back), so saved an additional $60 on top, or $180 all up on the one booking.

Can't imagine Expedia would have made too much money on that booking as the discounts are probably paid out of their commission, but oh well, would have just booked direct with the hotel otherwise, so perhaps still (marginally) beneficial for them.

Bought 10l of decking oil today at Inspirations; 5% discount as a "paint club" member, 2% surcharge for Amex, less 4 x $10 shop small discounts split over our 4 cards.

Better than Bunnings and the agent carried the oil to the car for us.

I personally think that everyone should use these cash back offers by supporting the business that offered them but if anyone has saved the Harris Scarfe offer and really can't find any merchandise to buy then it seems like they are also getting into the third party gift card business. I saw a store putting them out today including Only1 Visa cards. I assume that not every store will have them out yet and it might take a few days.

Its taken me nearly the full month but finished the last of my 120 small shops this weekend. Lots of gift cards for butchers and hairdressers purchased for use over the next few months.

For those still with some credits to use don't forget that this offer ends this coming Thursday (30/11).

Thx for the heads up- the one in Tuggeranong act , had them out the back . Lady was more then happy to process them - it was new as well she had to go off an instruction sheet . Did get charged the fee though but still around a 14% discount . Regret not saving the offer on all my cards

Don't know, but if they're not on the map you're at a distinct disadvantage if trying to argue for the credit.

IME Amex will deal with you for Amex-issued cards and try to fob you off for bank-issued cards. The banks don't have any clue about Shop Small, but some may give you the credit without blinking an eyelid, while others resist to the bitter end.

When the latter happened to me, Amex relented and gave me an online contact form to enquire about the credit.

American Express

The response claimed the merchant wasn't on the map (which was no longer accessible after the Shop Small period) and was ineligible, but I had kept a screenshot for just that eventuality. So they finally credited the $10, but obviously no admission or apology.

Hmmm, thanks. I wasn't counting on it, so I'll let it go...Not worth the $50 I'd get from chasing it up.

Cheers
