As of tomorrow, BNE International is implementing a new location for passenger pick up. Just a short walk, outside, in the open, with tickets for drivers that give you 10 minutes in the zone or they get slugged a fee.

More details here: Brisbane Airport moves international terminal pick-up zone.

What a farce! BAC just screwing the pax that little bit more, like all the major airports in Australia.

Sounds like a very similar setup to BNE Domestic – where pickup was moved from directly outside to a special area adjacent to the carpark with I believe the same 10-min free parking window, so it doesn't surprise me and actually seems quite logical to have it in that way for International too. I can see why the level 2 area wasn't going to last forever, especially considering how many people take advantage of it and wait for far too long or park so badly that no one else can fit in, or double park, and expected growth.

That said I've switched my parents flights to predominantly fly in/out of OOL for the F lounge outbound and easier traffic to/from. The extra SC don't go astray either.

This will be interesting when I collect my 84 YO mum who needs wheel chair support on and off a plane. I guess the revenues from an explosion in parking fees will help. I certainly will NOT be using the new collection point as it will be a nightmare of similar proportions to the shambles that exists at the domestic terminal.
It will be a simpler process to use the limo / Uber pick up a short walk down the ramp from the arrivals hall.
Unless of course there is a designated “disabled” pickup point ?

I think the AusBT article did mention something for elderly/disabled...

I would have thought you'd park and meet her in the arrivals hall anyway. I nearly always do when my mum comes into Australia. That said, reading the article you would have found your answer:

Passengers with disabilities won’t be required to use the new pick-up area, and can instead take the lifts up to level four, for collection from the airport’s main departures road, which remains in its current location nearby check-in.

Probably better to know where to go than try turn up at level 2 and create hassles.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

And congratulations to the Brisbane airport bright spark that came up with the path between the terminal and the new pick-up zone not being under rain-cover.

Indeed, although Phase 2 of this marvellous scheme includes putting a cover over the walkway.

I made a call to BAC this morning, it would appear that the best way forward for meeting someone arriving from O/S and requiring wheel chair support is to drop someone off to meet her inside, make a phone call to me as i wait down the road, and then i am able to use the old collection point and make a kerbside pickup, and use the disabled parking space there. so not a total disaster, although it does require two people to make a pick up :)

Nothing like 'improving' the passenger experience!

I did have occasion to use the new pick up as a Pax the other day, while I don't think it is the raging success from a PAX perspective, it has lessened the pressure on the pick up from a drivers perspective, My daughter said it was relatively hassle free compared to the old system.
I shall see how it goes when i am the driver.

I recently had an Uber driver wait for me at the new pickup zone. Not sure if this was intentional to avoid the access fee (which gets charged to the passenger, so probably not) or just lack of knowledge. Annoying non the less since the wait is already ~10mins from the Uber waiting area.

They've taken a lesson from Sydney.

Having just been to LGK via SIN and KUL and rtn, it never ceases to amaze me how utterly cough the airport experience at Australian airports is. Nowhere else in the world do the pax get treated with such disdain and as such cashcows. The airport operators ought to be ashamed of themselves but, of course, they are not.

Agree all the way. I try my utmost to keep Australian airport spending to zero! I'd rather walk a block than pay a private company a cent more than they already get from me.
