Well tonight's junk mail included:
1. 2 job offers
2. A new car
3. 2 new iPhones
4. An offer to become an Etherium invester and make 8K
5.An apology from Woolworths that I have been overcharged and so they are giving me a $2000 gift card
6. An offer I can't refuse from an online casino.

Surprisingly I didn't reply to any of them. I wonder why not

My parents got a $1000 "supposedly" from Coles sms.
They (the spammers)/scammers even put the words (Coles in upper case) as the sender.
I can now see why older people fall for scams when they get the Bunnings, Coles, Woolworths fake survey, and fill in their details, and then get spam/scam emails for the rest of their lives.
I told my dad that its a scam, he says no harm in seeing how far it would go, I keep mentioning not to, bugga, sometimes these older folk think they know it all.

I’m getting unconvincing offers for bitcoin lately, must be to attract the ‘me too investor’.
I'm getting 10-12 emails/day and sick of them even in the junk folder. I have to check junk folder regularly as wanted email finds its way in there and I don't want to wade through this garbage. Surely they can ban the websites that sends this garbage?

I used to get up to 10-12 junk emails/day. The past month that has doubled and sometimes more.

I have set preferences to send emails from a number of senders straight to trash. Instead of specifying the whole sender I get rid of the name and only leave domain etc (from the @.....). Although I need to add to the list every week, it does divert quite a few from the inbox as many are the same address. The ones in my junk folder are a new set of addresses so have set them to delete as well.
Makes it a little easier but not perfect.
Have done the same with phone numbers if they are spammers/scammers/cold callers - straight to answering machine.

Some mail client programs will "learn" what you don't want if you mark these messages as "junk". Mine does with a single click. I divert junk to a folder for a final review (sender & subject only) and can delete all of them with a single "empty trash" command. Very efficient.

Using a "white list" of known or trusted domains does the opposite, ensuring you don't miss important things (like new DSC offers). My contact list is a white list for junk detection and I have added to my contact list some "contact details" for companies I want to receive mail from.

My luck must be changing.

Someone (apparently in Ukraine) is offering somebody (the recipient doesn't match here) FREE lottery tickets.

Alas the Telstra mail server won't let me report it.

Just wandering

Fred

Unauthorised Sign-In attempted at both my Commonwealth & NAB accounts. Luckily Support Centre stopped them. Good old Support Centre just needs a few details.:)

If only I had either a Commonwealth or NAB account.

That does make it easier but not sure the free version of Outlook handles the situation you describe. A lot of the junk email comes from the same domain. Must do some more research.

I had this recently, except it was a bank where I do have an account. After some further checking it turned out to be genuine.

I was dismayed at the initial contact from the fraud department calling from an unknown number, asking for personal information without giving me anything to prove who they were. I politely told them to rack off, called the official number but the call centre frontline CSA had no notes on file. Ah ha! I thought. But having mentioned the fraud team he said I would need to speak directly with them... could they call me back? I asked for the name of the person who would call? No, not possible. Can you give me a ref number which they can state when they call so I know its genuine? No I just log a request to call back. How will I know it's a genuine call? They will say they are calling from the bank (tone: obviously!). Hmmm.

After quite a while we conferenced in the fraud team member who then refused to discuss the matter with the CSA on the line, but he couldn't hang up or it would terminate the conference call!! But at least I had a name and voice which I could recognize a few minutes later when she called.

What a saga!
