Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I rang the call centre more than a week ago, and after the staff member went to check - I had to explain it twice before he (sort of) understood - he came back to me and stated that the lower points earn would only apply to transactions posted (i.e appearing) on the statement on or after 1 July 2017.

My humble suggestion is that you should examine your statement when it comes in the post, as mine does, or by email and see if NAB is true to its word.
My statement for 06/06 to 05/07 arrived today and I found the QFF points award was entirely at the new rate, so I had been done out of approximately 2500 points.

I've lodged a complaint with NAB, but it will take a couple of days to see if they do anything for me on this.

I do wonder if the way the change is worded, they mean that it applies to your entire statement that issues post 1 July. Obviously I hope not. Let us know what they come back with.

NAB said:
These new earn rates and caps will apply to eligible purchases that appear on your statements issued on or after 1 July 2017. There is no change to the way total purchases are calculated during a statement period.

Bolding mine

That was my understanding that if a statement was issued after July 1st, all transactions appearing in that statement would be at the new earn rate.

Urgh the 0.67 points on Visa doesn't warrant the high annual fee they're charging for the premium card.

Has anyone had success getting fee waiver or discount in light of the reduced points earn?

Yes, I rang NAB and had my annual fee waived - but this was prior to the latest 'enhancement' of the 21 February 2018 cessation of NAB offering American Express cards.

Every time I telephone the call centre I receive good (and quite prompt) service. Provided one has had a card with NAB for a few years and has not defaulted at any time, they seem happy to 'assist' although naturally the staff cannot reverse these 'enhancement' decisions. For that ultimate blame must rest with the Reserve Bank of Australia.

Ring them (it closes at 1900 hours) and ask for the fee to be waived.

Given the reduced points earn and the stingy cap, I assume many of us will retain these cards for convenience (not having to lug around so much cash) and safety, but I'd love to know how many cardholders are just saying 'st--f you' and cutting up all their cards.

I also have a NAB Amex card (&Visa), it sucks that they are removing AMEX. The 3000 points cap per month is just ridiculous.

I was looking at putting thru a 40k transaction on the Visa card in the next few months and then remembered the 3000 points cap. I've looked around and I know global wallet is 1 point per $3 spent domestic and the Qantas cashcard is 1 point per $4 spent.

I don't want to get another credit card just to put this transaction thru on, I don't mind loading up the global wallet account but I do want to maximize the points earn. Any ideas? (The merchant only accepts Visa/MC) - Any ideas?

I'm confused.

Received an offer of "NAB Qantas Rewards Signature Card"
- VISA only
- 1pt/$ up to $5k
- 0.5pt/$ $5k-$20k
- Capped at $20k spend/mo.

Another alternative to fee waiver might be transfer to the Personal Signature card - has anyone tried that?

NAB are dropping their Amex co issued platinum card.

I received an email about two weeks ago to change my account to straight Visa with increased qff points and total monthly allowance. No Amex.

From NAB
Important changes to NAB credit card accounts. From 13 November 2017 - NABAmerican Express® Cards will no longer be offered on new NAB accounts. You'll only receive a NAB American Express Card if you apply prior to 13 November 2017. Any applications after this date will only receive a NAB Visa card.
