It seems my involvement and even reading of the forum has dropped right off since the app died. Any news on when there may be a new one?

The 'Go to first unread' button only appears when I'm in mobile landscape mode but not portrait mode?
I think that must be a local setting as I just tried on the iPhone and it’s there. But you can also just click on the title too now.

That could be a function of responsive design, if your screen is too small then the button may not fit in one orientation. What phone do you have?

Have you tried it on your mobile web browser?

Since the migration I have spent far more time on my phone posting to the site, even as far as moderating on-the-go whereas previously I didn't feel confident because the site wasn't optimised to my phone.

App development is most likely going to stretch into the medium term, but most apps for Xenforo tend to take the mobile theme and replicate it within the app from what I have seen. So an app experience would feel very similar to a mobile web browser experience. There would of course be a few differences, but the app won't look like the old app that's for sure.

I have indeed. In fact that's all I use (no computer, currently).

I find it frustrating sometimes when there are slow load times.

My bigger problem though, is that the list of posts doesn't give a preview of the latest post. I found the latest post preview in the old app used to entice me into threads moreso than the titles.

I imagine that could be one of the things an app would have that would differentiate it from the mobile experience, but as I said before, it's a medium term outlook for now as we slowly wind down on tweaks to the stability of the site. As you no doubt saw, a small change was made to quotes. Despite being so minor, it took time to get this done, and had unintended consequences in another area.

Could you stop putting those damn ads in the middle of peoples posts - it is really off putting, and I for one now read a lot less posts because of it.
Put the ads back in between posts but not in the middle - right in the middle of the posters photos !

I raised that same issue a few posts back but no response on it either.

I have to agree and I’ve noticed a lot of usual and learned posters have really cut back their contributions as well unfortunately so I suspect it not just you.

I am too hanging out for a return of a (decent) app. The mobile web experience is on the whole ok now but not easy to navigate to posts of interest or ones you are active in to contribute. It’s now just a bit ‘hard’ to participate on the level I was before and see the same trend with others unfortunately.

The big thing for me is the lack of a participated threads function to keep up with - have asked twice, no reply so assuming silence means no real solution :) :(

Anyway, hanging out for the app and timings to be released!

I had thought this had been answered previously, so in case it hasn't ...

Subscribed threads are now 'Watched Threads'.

To view those with recent content hover over 'Community Forums' at the top of the screen. Then click 'Watched Threads'. This will then bring up 20 threads you are watching (subscribed to) with recent activity. At the bottom of the list you can click 'Show all watched threads' to, well, show all watched threads.

I'd like to say a big congrats and thank you to admins for this migration. I totally understand what would have gone into this migration in the lead up, during and post. It's a massive effort.

The new website is so much faster than the old one. Many of the issues I had noticed have gone. Took me a few days to get used to it, but now it is second nature. Well done team.

One thing I haven't been able to find that the old version had was the ability to insert a quote. The old site and a button in the post reply form. Ie, I want to add a quote from an email I've received type of thing. Is that still possibly?

Next to the image/video icons is a + icon. Press that and you get the quote option, along with a few others

Sorry, no I can't, I'm highly resistant to change, which is odd for someone that worked in IT, but, invariably when I've seen things change, it's been change for change sake.

A lot of people on here criticize Qantas for 'enhancements', well I feel the same way about these changes to this forum.
But the app wasn’t working and the platform was no longer (or about to be) functional. So something had to give. I hate surprises too. It’s taken MrP a few years to work that out.

I guess the 'app' isn't of importance to me, I only ever use this forum though a pc.
Maybe that’s the difference. I rarely use PC these days but even so I’m not having too many issues with the new format when I do.

The thing I don’t like so much is that the TR’s have been messed around with.

, I only ever use this forum though a pc.

As above, the platform was getting dated and upgrading on the same Platform would have had many similar changes and arguably less functionality and support

I raised that same issue a few posts back but no response on it either.

There are actually fewer ads under the new software than previously. Yes, the ads do appear in different places within threads, but I'm not sure why anyone would prefer to go back to the amount of ads we had previously. At the end of the day, going ad-free is only $50, and while I am biased I guess, it was the first thing I did when I became a member in 2009.

Other than the reply upthread a bit, a more focused "participated" function does not exist by default. If, in the future, we find an add-on that will work well with everything else we have installed then that may be a feature that is added. But as with all comments on requests for features, there is a process we need to go through that includes a test environment and that has yet to be setup.

Certainly, this may be a feature that an app can bring to the table too, however that is also a medium term project for us.

Someone beat me to this reply!

Fortunately, this was not the case. If we had kept running the older software, things would have continued breaking down to the point we might have had major issues/downtime.

I primarily post through my laptop, connected to a monitor in portrait (1080 x 1920). While I would have been reluctant to admit it, the old software was starting to break in areas, forcing excuses to be made. The only solution was an upgrade, and we evaluated a few options. The decision wasn't taken lightly and functionality was a key priority.
