New AFF Website

Well, I guess we could go back to the old AFF.

It was meant to be a facetious reaction / suggestion to your post (i.e. AFF can't provide what is asked for), which coincidentally was raised earlier in this thread.

I can understand why AFF had to move to new software.

The email notification is very inconsistent and generally seems t have stopped working for subscribed (watched) threads.

@Admin, @samh004 while trying to remove an email alert on a watched thread, I accidentally deleted all my watched threads. Is there any easy way to undo or recover those?

As Sam says, we will have a look - but I doubt it as there is nothing in the admin panel which takes "snapshots" over time of member settings. But we will look again. Restoring from our system backup obviously wouldn't be an option, as it would overwrite everything on AFF!

I received a couple of notification emails of new threads today because I've subscribed to some of the sub forums. The threads were created around 7am Melbourne time. By the time I followed the links (around 8.30am) the threads had disappeared. This didn't surprise me as I suspect the threads were advertising or spam. We have had an increase in spammers of late. Perhaps the new website it more attractive than the old one. As such, we are still tweaking settings but are mostly on top of it at the present stage.

Having now gotten used to how the new site works (very well ), I've now come back to the AFF style from the Xenforo standard, not because I prefer the AFF style but because, we've been told, that the Xenforo won't be available forever, so I may as well get with the program now.

But I still think the weakest part of the style is the faint-ness of the quoted text. I see JT's comment above that the "style is fixed", but given that its overall an AFF modification of the Xenforo Standard, it appears to be able to be changed, unless the developer has locked it, in layman's terms.

I appreciate that changes cost money, but I'm hoping that the quoted text thing is on the 'to do' list of @Admin and @support (shivers ... never thought I'd use twitter-talk!). Perhaps they can settle this for us - is it not possible/not going to be changed, or is it under consideration or is it even on the list of likely changes?

Stylistically I agree with the lighter quoted text - it's not important and my focus stays on the dark grey primary text.

Yes, but quoted text can be new content too. For instance in the 'Travel news' forum, if the post is about an article somewhere, the 'form' is to quote from the article (especially if its pay-walled), link to it and discuss. If its pay-walled, although a reader here can get round it via Google, I tend to make longer quotes so the post is more-or-less self contained. Having 3 or 4 paras of the faint text isn't user-friendly when the faint text is the core of the post or thread.

Yes, but quoted text can be new content too. Two comments RooFLyer - how the heck did you get all your TR links in your sig? I got the error message I had too many "somethings" and had to deselect some. This was set up on the old platform - what is your secret (not that the photos render well anymore...)

Second comment - if the quoted message is really important and I dont remember/cant read it, then if you click on on that arrow it takes you to the darker version. Maybe thats an option. Mostly I've found as long as I know which post is being referred to I dont need to read the whole original post.

So have you altered the number of posts per page or is my computer once again demonstrating it's ability to be different?
in my latest TR the first page has 20 posts.The second page starts at post 21 but there are now 42 posts and it is still on page 2.
