Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

We stayed at Hotel Hotel a few months ago and it was really quite soigne: price was reasonable too.

Novotel is bang in the city and if you don't have a car, close to the main bus interchange. It is easy to find somewhere to eat round there (across Northbourne Ave in the main but a short walk). I like Manuka Oval. On game day there will be road closures in some areas around it. Not sure if you are intending to drive or take public transport to the match. Hope the weather is better than it is today for you :)
By late July it could well be 18 degrees.
I'm happy to walk to Manuka. I know it's an hour, but it doesn't bother me too much. Either than or an uber or a cab.

18C is lovely, not so nice tomorrow when it will be 6C. I'll make a bold prediction and say that the shopping centres and movies will be full.

And, I should have said, that the libraries will be popular too. I hope the elderly are OK. The old houses are not designed for very cold temps. Anyhow, back OT.

There will be free buses from the city to Manuka which you might prefer if the weather is not playing nice (and I think you may be a bit optimistic on the 18C) :)

Going for 16, 17, 18, 16 next week.

Was a rather lovely 16 degrees mid-arvo today! But doesn't stay at the high for very long, is more of the issue.

Personally I'd stay in one of the hotels nearer the ground (Kingston / Manuka / Barton area) as the proximity to not only the oval but good food, cultural institutions, markets etc is better there than Civic on a weekend.

I assume you'll do a trip report Justinf?

That would be my choice too but I think that Justinf had already booked his accommodation ages ago.

Looks like max of 14 forecast for the weekend so could be worse :)

East hotel is fantastic. Great service and rooms but far cheaper than Hotel Hotel if your company isn't picking up the tab ;)

On certain evenings there is a good buffet, especially if you like seafood. The Hyatt isn't located somewhere where you can easily walk to cafes, restaurants, shops, bars etc so you would need a car. Although you can walk toward the lake. It depends how long you are there and for what purpose you are visiting.

Any thoughts on the Hyatt?

Excellent will probably check that out for my birthday next weekend! Will be down for a quick weekender by car from Sydney so location no problem. Walking by the lake sounds nice.

While I would'nt disagree with GetMeOuttaHere's comments, the 'historic' Hyatt is not my first choice in Canberra. Some parts can be a bit dated and I think the overall look sits between dated and classic, however some people I know just love it.

As mentioned up thread, Hotel Hotel, East, QT are all quite good if you prefer something more modern.

I love the Hyatt, but then I do like classic/old hotels. I would agree Hotel Hotel has very interesting architecture and I love the Monster Bar.

Last year during Floriade, I stayed at the Avenue Hotel, Canberra and was very happy with them.

Thought I'd give my opinion here having stayed at Realm, Hotel Hotel and Hyatt this year.

Realm and Hotel Hotel are both modern hotels and no real issues with either. However, the Hyatt is the winner for me. Some of the furnishings could do with a refresh, but I love the old world charm.

I landed up staying in a suite at The Realm as no basic rooms were available. The bad points were a bit of street noise and I didn't really like the lobby area. The restaurants bars are pretty busy with people there for meetings and conferences.

Hotel Hotel I thought might be a better location in Civic. However, it really is on the south western outskirts. Again, I didn't really care for the lobby/restaurant area. I paid a bit extra to not have an inside room as they looked a little dingy. My room faces onto the road and again, even though double glazed windows there was street noise. The couch area in the room was impractical. There are plenty of decent places to eat nearby.

Hyatt booked a basic room and it was a really good size. Bathroom is modern and great amenities. Very quiet area. Breakfast was good. There are plenty of places inside the hotel you can go to sit and work or relax. Downside of the Hyatt is on the previous two trips it was a fair bit dearer. This time pricing was the same as Hotel Hotel and The Realm.

In future I'll go back to the Hyatt if pricing is ok, otherwise might explore a couple of other options.
