Hello, any AusFF members have any thoughts on the 777-300 Skycouch? Considering it for 2 adults and a small child. I'm quite tall though so thinking its going to suck for me and i'll end up sitting upright anyways :) But for the wife and kid it looks a great idea and only $200 extra.

Lots of the reviews are positive, but most people seem a lot smaller then me, and i wonder would lying somewhta curled up be really annoying for a tall person, or the alternative being having my dangling limbs bumped into by passing passengers.

If its such a great idea, why havnt over airlines jumped on it?

I haven't personally used it, but from what I've been told there would not be enough room for 2 adults and a child - it's barely enough for 2 adults. Also, the Air NZ marketing shots always show the Skycouch seats in the reclined position and the seats in front not reclined - in reality, there's a lot less space if the row in front reclines. Still, for $200 it's probably worth it.

I've used the Skycouch from LAX-AKL with 2 people. I didn't pay for it (they did seat blocking in the Air NZ lounge) but the legroom in the row was greater than other normal seats further down the back.

As others have mentioned the 3 seats across are too short and to become a fully functioning bed you really need 4 seats (which one other airline has done but then the economics don't really add up). The reason why other airlines aren't using it is because Air NZ has a patent on the product and only sells licenses to other airlines that aren't in competition with them.

If your wife is 5'2" or shorter then it could work, but I've done it once - as two adults, and it didn't work both of us. I let my gf curl up on two seats and I sat upright with her feet on my lap. Wouldn't pay for it. The consensus from many comments elsewhere is that it's great for an adult and a child, but that's about it unless you're alone.
