5 years later.... still 'one of the worst airlines in the free world'

I'm baaaack! It’s been nearly 5 years since my last Qantas experience and an entertaining exchange here on AFF. But a cheap Auckland-LAX-London AA codeshare First Class fare brought me back. AKL-SYD on the continuation of QF 4 from JFK, SYD-LAX in Qantas First, then LAX-LHR in BA First next...

    Melbourne- Bali/Denpasar

Thanks again AustralianPouchie. Always HLO and I do have the AirNZ app. Hopefully it will generate my digital BP vs. "see agent". Plus I should be able to generate a paper BP at my hotel prior to heading to DPS the night before. My flight is NZ104 but for another 4 weeks.

    Melbourne- Bali/Denpasar

Thanks AustraliaPoochie for the overview and good advice. Will definitely try the intl transit lane recommendation. My current scheduled arrival time is actually 8:20a. Hopefully GA is on time and the connection is smooth. Out of curiosity, is there a VIP meet & greet service at SYD, one...

    Melbourne- Bali/Denpasar

I'm flying DPS to AKL via SYD in J next month. DPS-SYD was an easy choice with Garuda's lie flat A330 redeye and superior service. For my connecting SYD-AKL, I had originally bought a QF J ticket when QF advertised A330 service. Then QF downgraded the A330 to a 738 and moved the 11:30am...

Qantas: 'one of the worst airlines in the free world'

You might want to check the Flyertalk Trip Report statistics before popping off. And while we're at it, was there an actual poll which substantiates your claim to be a Cruiser Elite or even an Elite? ;)

Qantas: 'one of the worst airlines in the free world'

If you had read the full report, you would have read... "With not a single award seat back from Australia after New Years, the cheapest Business Class way home was to buy a roundtrip… in our case Hamilton Island-LAX-Sydney. Not wanting to waste the return flight and lost free BA Tier Points...

Qantas: 'one of the worst airlines in the free world'

Apparently you have trouble reading and/or comprehending or just decided to spout off with reading the report. Using miles is not free. This was the return half of a cheap roundtrip ticket, the entire price of which was half the price of a one way HTI-LAX ticket.

Qantas: 'one of the worst airlines in the free world'

I'm baaaack. :) I must be a glutton for punishment as I decided to actually fly my "free" LAX-SYD J ticket earlier this week. Unlike the pleasant 1-2-1 Business Class product on the 789, the QF A380 Business Class product is mediocre to anyone other than QF flyboys and flag wavers. An ugly...

QF 12 JFK - LAX only

Cabotage has probably been tightened over the years. Six/seven years ago in the early wild west days of Avianca LifeMiles, YYZ-DEN and DEN-BOS was bookable in Lufthansa First via FRA... for the regular 3 class North America award rate of 35,000 miles. That amazing trick worked for the better...

QF 12 JFK - LAX only

On the other hand, Alaska still allows an LAX stop-over (in theory up to 12 months) on a JFK-LAX-SYD or SYD-LAX-JFK award booking.

I'm thinking that someone needs a time out. ;)

Qantas: 'one of the worst airlines in the free world'

Perhaps we should add this to the list to which fanboi/fanboys can get upset about and dispute. ;) Qantas' South African call centre is an embarrassment

Qantas: 'one of the worst airlines in the free world'

No, not everyone and not every airline has "many failings". Unfortunately, to the extent that your "yes, they are cough but they are still my number one choice" is a wide spread attitude in Australia, why should a for profit airline like QF spend any money on making improvements? BA suffers...
