They may be kids in the video but it highlights how confirmation bias doesn't allow some adults to think outside the box when it comes to what a pilot looks like eg can't be young and boisterous in the lounge. If they'd been older and quiet in the lounge it would've been more believable that...
Looks like they're almost trying to go to Honolulu except QF3 now ops SYD-AKL-JFK & it's now QF103 SYD-HNL.
Of course there's always the LCC option of JQ1 MEL-HNL or JQ3 SYD-HNL. 🙀
Just because pilots are in economy doesn't mean they're on duty travel - or even work for QF.
Many staff, both pilots & flight attendants, commute eg if they reside in BNE but operate out of SYD in which case they would be travelling at own expense on leisure staff travel.
If on leisure travel...
They probably had to get to MEL asap to operate a flight because maybe the tech crew on that flight couldn't operate it for any number of reasons. It's possible the crew originally scheduled to operate the flight were out of hours or stuck in a regional port if the aircraft they were operating...
It's in the award that duty travel pilots travel in the highest class of travel that is offered on the flight so if the highest cabin in J and the cabin is full then commercial pax unfortunately get downgraded. Another scenario where it can happen if there's a cancelled flight so if J was full...
If they were paxing crew on duty travel they wouldn't have had a standby boarding pass so at the very least they would have been in a confirmed economy seat but probably insisted on their entitlement of duty travel which is to travel in J.
FYI was this on a mainline B737 or A330 flight?
I feel for the QLink departure agents who do the boarding on the E190 flights as both F/A's remain onboard. It's chaotic enough just overseeing the departure of a flight never mind have to do all the boarding by yourself too!
I don't envisage...
Are you P1? That's one major benefit of getting points upgrades that far in advance so you don't lose out to pax booking full J fares at the last minute. 👍
There's a lot of people who aren't very tech savvy who get checked in by a family member who sends them a text with a screen shot of the barcode which they can scan at the kiosks if they need to print out a bag tag & scan at the auto bag drop. 🎒
Many people wouldn't have a clue what NFC is or...
I don't mean the latest roll out but these bag tag printer machines that have been at PER for years along with the regular kiosks they have in the Eastern States.
I don't believe they'll be any changes there but the real elephant in the room is why the ability to check yourself in on the kiosk is no longer possible on the new kiosks.
There are plenty of people without smartphones or who aren't confident using the internet who would checkin at the airport...
