    International Driving Permits/Licences

I do have an IDP - just got one recently for Japan because I know that you need it there. Just like I know that you don't need one in California - the state government website explicitly says you do not. I have rented lots of cars in Italy. Even crashed one. Never been asked for an IDP...

    International Driving Permits/Licences

    Of course - it's a non-Roman script country...

    International Driving Permits/Licences

And in the USA it is determined by each state... California for example doesn't require one - explicitly says so https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/detail/dl/dl_info#international

    International Driving Permits/Licences

Here are a couple of choice links I think everyone will enjoy.... Firstly, rental terms from Hertz (just selected it at random) https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/reservation/reviewmodifycancel/templates/rentalTerms.jsp?KEYWORD=LICENSE&EOAG=FRAT50 "At the time of rental the driver must present a...

    International Driving Permits/Licences

Not particularly helpful. Can you share an example of where it says this? We have examples of what the rental car companies say (they say when an IDP is required), and what the insurance policies say (doesn't mention IDP), but not of this 3rd mysterious rule. Very strange. Seems to only relate...

    International Driving Permits/Licences

Yeah mine says the same with regard to motor cycles - I think the confusion is around "you hold a licence valid in the relevant country" - what does that mean? It certainly does not say IDP. And it cannot mean you have to get a motorcycle license from the local DMV or whatever? Or does it? It...

Are VA Domestic J loads light............?

8/8 J seats were occupied on my flight... but I wonder if they were all upgrades too? Anyway I am happy to have scored the upgrade for $150!

    International Driving Permits/Licences

No. The rental car company requires a valid license. The insurer requires a contract with a rental car company. I suppose the assumption on their part is that the rental car company won't rent to you unless you have a license? I have recent experience in this regard.... a few years back in...

    International Driving Permits/Licences

So with my insurance policy I did a word search for "international driving permit" and "IDP" and nothing came up. I also and read it from front to back (40 pages). Nothing. Perhaps this kid's insurer was different?

Qantas Business Class customers bumped to economy in Tokyo

Yep. Who knows, maybe their fares are just priced in the home currency in the back-end system anyway

    International Driving Permits/Licences

I don't think they are "poo-poo"ing anything.... with regard to Hertz, for example, their T&Cs explicitly say that IDP is only required in a country with non-roman script (eg China, Japan etc), and then the actual travel insurance. Here is the excerpt from the insurance policy: "We will pay...

    International Driving Permits/Licences

I just read the PDS of my insurance policy and it doesn't mention IDP at all... . This is what it says it WON'T cover: rides a motorcycle: i) without wearing a helmet; and ii) without having a valid licence as required in Australia and in the country of travel for the same class of motorcycle...
