That is true. You can even get someone to refer you and get an extra bonus.
Personally I only managed to hit 200,000 MR points in past year. About half came from sign on bonus + a referral bonus. I did load up on gift cards and prepaid utilities towards the end as well. Will never be able to...
The way I see it - I will definitely use up the travel credit. So the card is really costing me nothing. That's why I am keeping it. Is this logic flawed?
I did the final transfer this morning. I now have 1 point left. LOL
A few nights a ago I swept the bulk of my MR balance to Krisflyer and encounter an issue... Just say please try again later. So I talked to someone via online chat and she moved it for me. Try that if you have issues.
I contacted by phone and I got told the same word for word!
Transfer to Krisflyer was very fast. Did it just before mid-night last night and points already in my Singapore KF account by mid-day.
I gave it a go. Called them up and ask if there is any bonus offered on my account. I am a big boy and can handle rejection.
I am a small fish - only have ~200k MR points. I put only around $5-10k a month through the card. So they said no.
I used to put ATO payments on the Westpac KrisFlyer Amex - since its demise I have not had to pay ATO. I have a small 1k bill coming up for business tax. Looks like time to do some homework here for me.
Wouldn't it be better to hold off ATO payments? Take the Explorer card, after deval date, you get 1 pt/$ compared to 0.5.
So $1000 payment
Before 15/4: $1000 at ATO => 500 MR => 375 KrisFlyer
After 15/4: $1000 at ATO => 1000 MR => 500 KrisFlyer
You can make payments to Energy Australia using Amex, and then ask for a refund. The website says they will refund on the card first and if that doesn't work, then they will send the extra credit to a bank account you provided. I suppose you can cancel the card and then request a refund.
I must say that it is rather disappointing to see that the ATO amex credit card fee is still 1.45%. They claimed that they are passing this through at cost. But given that the reason for MR deval is that the fees amex can charge are lower, shouldn't ATO's fee have come down?
