JQ did operate BNE-HNL on the B787 back in about 2012-2016, but then dropped it, sadly, and left the direct market to HA. And courtesy of COVID, HA no longer operates the route either now......

Actually it's their estate that needs to be contacted, not their next-of-kin, unless the next-of-kin is the executor of the estate. The onus is on the estate to contact Qantas, not wait for Qantas to contact the estate when it has no idea who the executor is!

Totally agree. Dropping the music channels - especially on international flights - has been a hugely retrograde step. We want our music channels back!!!!

There must have been a J seat available, either inoperable or a no-show (both seem reasonably likely to occur with things as they are at the moment). Or the CSM moved a J pax to an empty F seat (it was as A380) to free up the J seat.
