As we were not flying out until the next morning, we requested to be dropped off at ASP to collect a rental car for a little local sightseeing for the rest of the day. Simpson’s Gap. Then to the Telegraph Station. Onto the bird to ADL the next morning. The woman in the high-vis told me...

That night was the Sounds of Silence outdoor dinner and stargazing. The venue is located a few km from the resort, with drinks on top of a dune giving views towards both Kata Tjuta and Ayers Rock. Just after sunset, it was a short walk down to the dinner venue. A very pleasant evening. Next...

This is the place from which the walk to the top once started. The pale wear mark of the track is still visible.

Next morning, it was out to The Olgas/Kata Tjuta and a walk into Walpa Gorge. While the geology of Kata Tjuta and Uluru are uplifted sediments, Kata Tjuta differs from Uluru in being rough conglomerate, whereas Uluru is a sandstone.

Moving on to Kings Creek Station for morning tea – scones & cream – gah, I detest those things! They had a few camels yarded. Ostensibly, they were going to be trucked out once a load was reached. I think they had a long way to go to get truckload numbers… There are a few camel abattoirs in...

Leaving Kings Canyon next morning and continuing on Red Centre Way a few clicks to Kathleen Creek/Springs. The path leads up a dead-end valley to a permanent waterhole that was used by aboriginal people as a hunting ground and subsequently as a stock watering and mustering area.

We then adjourned to a very pleasant outside BBQ dinner in our own area at the resort.

Then it was back to the resort for a chill afternoon before the sunset drinks and canapes and the light show. Bruce Munro’s ‘Light Towers’. We were the Priviliged Ones who had the front section with drinks and canapes, to be followed after dark by the freedom to walk amongst the display.
