I also require lie-flat beds on flights and travelling within the US can be tricky as a result. AA use their 787 from ORD to DFW and LAX, United use their 787 between Denver and SFO, IAD and IAH. These J products are proper lie flat services. Variations among other products is vaaaast. The other...
Who do you have points with? QF and EK J one way to EU is pretty standard at 128k using QFF points regardless of where you fly into; you'll use slightly more with CX or QR legs.
Re: Qantas: non-stop Australia (Perth)-Europe (London) Boeing 787 flights set to soar
If they ditch the standard 9/10, QF1 will spend far too long on the ground at LHR so i'd imagine a schedule change with QF2 leaving in QF10s old timeslot. FRA was not profitable for QF previously so I doubt...
Re: Qantas: non-stop Australia (Perth)-Europe (London) Boeing 787 flights set to soar
They'll lose a lot of MEL pax if they ditch the routing via the ME (or Asia). Very much hoping the A380 route remains, perhaps ending in a different EU city?
The old J to F upgrades used to be good value but I wouldn't do that anymore. It won't lose too much popularity though, it's a pretty popular option, especially with the A380 J showing its age.
About to book return fares to LHR in J but they're a ridiculous price at the moment - always the way when there's double points it seems! Disappointing!
So dependent on aircraft. It's possible to swing CX A350 all the way through from MEL to LGW and, if you can do that, I highly recommend it. Timings on the return can be more difficult and might mean an A330 on the HKG to MEL leg. Still, a good consistent hard product. I favour QF over EK - the...
I also encountered this issue recently. You need to call and they'll sort out internal USA flights for you. Not sure why it's not possible online anymore.
Can't say i'm as familiar with VA's sale timings. Are you committed to flying with them? Air NZ have some fares around $6500 at the moment but it would obviously involve two stops instead of one.
Have definitely seen that for $5500 pretty readily on QF during sale periods. Personally would not pay $7200! QF have a big sale in February (around Valentine's Day historically), might be worth waiting for that?
AY are very good, with a great reputation for safety but the one downside I hear repeatedly is their food is not always up to J standards of Asian or ME carriers. Great price though so i'd book it.
Re: Qantas offering Double Points
Looking to book flights for Dec/Jan, the return date will JUST open in time! Have to see what price I can wrangle first though. I'm accruing points for a very specific goal so a nice double-up on return J-fares to Europe with 3 QF legs sounds fantastic.

Not really unique to EY - QR have that service in place, and handle it very well, QF F are also pretty flexible.
I've heard lots of poor reports of EY service of late - plenty of customers unhappy with FA attitudes and helpfulness. I've heard enough bad reports to put me off booking with them...
re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options
In the process of booking a European holiday at the end of this year - doing a flight with LATAM from Frankfurt to Madrid in J. Cost about $200 per person (!!!) and yields 1,375 points and 60 SC. If you're in the area and want a nice little visit...
