Virgin sell the same flights for a little more. If I booked them that way, could I upgrade the domestic legs using points?
I've looked into booking from Adelaide, with a view to buying business class tickets to and from Adelaide with points, but it's a lot more expensive.
So Qatar have a good economy class fare from Sydney to Dublin, via Adelaide in both directions.
The flight between Sydney and Adelaide is Virgin of course.
What's the prospect of upgrading those legs to business class using Velocity points, to start and end the trip in comfort?
I was a NSW Councillor for two terms, and the requirements placed on us by NSW government were strict and onerous, but often ignored, especially by candidates and councillors associated with the Labor, National and Liberal parties. Probably because they saw that their MPs and MLCs weren't bound...
As an immigrant, this disappointed but did not surprise me. The tolerance for corruption in Australia is very obvious to an outsider.
Incidentally this isn't okay for private industry either - there is such a thing as Related Party Disclosures which accounting standards require to be completed...
Some bizarre pricing.
Looking at Kuala Lumpur to Europe in May returning June, and it's under $3000 to Munich via Amsterdam, but $3500 to Amsterdam itself!
As I want to go to Dublin, backtracking to Munich to save money isn't particularly attractive.
I'm now leaning towards this and similar...
After a bit more digging, I am now considering other departure points and airlines. Kuala Lumpur has some good deals on various airlines wirh faster connections.
Skyscanner offers other routes with shorter stopovers. To Dublin via Heathrow on a 380. And back via Schipol (not on a 380). Cheaper too.
Connection in Heathrow is 2.5 hours and requires transit from T2 to T4. I haven't been through Heathrow in 20 years. But if we were to miss the connection...
Anyhow, around my dates Jakarta-Dublin is about three times the price from Manila, so I will keep investigating Manila.
There do seem to be two main fare points - starting from about US$950 each way and starting from about US$1800 each way. I assumed it was worse and better connections...
