AMEX Platinum Charge Benefits - Q&A

You can only have one airline linked to Accor at a time. And you can only change airline once every 12 months.

MEL reportedly best airport in Australia

I agree that IST is just too big. From memory (Sept 2023) it was at least a 20 min walk from the lounge to the gate, and maybe a little longer.

MEL reportedly best airport in Australia

I think that's a pretty good assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of MEL. I'd add that the baggage claim is really slow compared with just about every other airport I've been to. And yes, there are buses, but that's nothing like having a dedicated train station or stations. On the other...

How best to use points for a young family?

I agree that when you have a family, it makes perfect sense to use points to fly economy — even domestic economy. I’ve used points several times to fly the family from Melbourne to North Queensland, NZ … even Sydney during peak times (eg. Christmas). On each occasion it’s saved me bucketloads...

    Air France European Booking

It's expensive, but not surprisingly so. Intra-Europe flights can be that expensive, especially only a few weeks out. There's an Easyjet flight from Paris Orly to Athens on May 4 for EUR 214 (plus extras). If you can't find any reward seats, and you can fly the day before, that's definitely...

    Air France European Booking

I just searched on Qantas and on Virgin Atlantic and there are no reward flights available on May 5 on those websites. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, or maybe AF has not released reward seats to its partners. A quick Google Flight search reveals that AF's 7pm flight is cheaper (A$487) and...

Taken 1 x QF General Lounge pass expiring April 23

Don’t need the pass but here’s an aviation-related joke which you probably need to be over 50 to appreciate: Why do flight attendants on Iberia always wear gumboots? Because the rain in Spain falls mainly in the plane.

$200 "Dining credit" towards a list of Global Restaurants

Well, I just had dinner at the Si Chuan Dou Hua and it was very nice. Came to $140 (for one). Not sure it was 14 times better than the amazing hawker lunch I had earlier: meal, dessert and drink for the grand total of SGD 9.50 … but still very nice. And, if Amex comes through, free.

$200 "Dining credit" towards a list of Global Restaurants

Can anyone recommend a good place to use this dining credit in Singapore? I'm particularly interested in Asian cuisine.

How will Velocity respond to Qantas FF changes (new Classic Plus rewards)

At the very least, Virgin needs to clean up its search engine a bit as far as reward flights go. The current search feature is clunky and I'd like to see some sort of search where, like Qantas, you can (more) easily isolate which flights have reward seats, and you can also isolate which flights...

Well I'm stumped. Classic Reward, multicity, release dates, I must be doing it wrong.

@JennyMG It looks like there’s been a big dump of Classic Flight Rewards this morning. Go for it!

Well I'm stumped. Classic Reward, multicity, release dates, I must be doing it wrong.

You can use them for other Oneworld and Qantas partner airlines (eg. Emirates, China Airlines) but only for flights that are bookable via the Qantas website. Here are a couple of strategies for you to consider: Use flight connections.com to find out what Qantas, Oneworld and Qantas partner...

Well I'm stumped. Classic Reward, multicity, release dates, I must be doing it wrong.

You're largely correct, but I think I'd qualify that sentence with the words "... when you're using Qantas points". With many other airlines and many other FF programmes, booking about a year out is still the way to go as far as I can see. A few examples that I'm familiar with: Qatar Airways...

Well I'm stumped. Classic Reward, multicity, release dates, I must be doing it wrong.

… And also, once or twice a year, Qantas releases reward seats in a large batch, with about half a day of plentiful availability before it’s all taken. I know that your preference is to give Qantas “a wide berth” but beggars really can’t be choosers in the points game, especially when it comes...
