Hi all. I'm looking at using up a stack of old Delta Skymiles I've had rotting away for over a decade. I've found a nice J fare I'd like to book, but need 35,000 more miles. Does anyone here have any advice aside from just purchasing them from Delta (at predictably high cost)?

That's what concerns me. I pretty much only use my points for long haul upgrades (being a lowly Academic, we are required to book economy for work). Does anyone keep statistics on upgrades for different flight routes, even if just based on FF self-reports? Would be interesting to track.

Just got back from Japan traveling QF. Was travelling with a friend who is QF Plat. We had no trouble at all accessing the JAL 1st lounge at NRT prior to our flight back on Sunday evening. The lounge is large and was quite busy. Food was very good - Japanese and "European" options. Decent range...

Oh that's good to know. EK lounges can be very nice in my experience. My flight back is at 19:20, so EK might not be viable, but if the flight gets delayed...

Yep. And if true, it has to call into question the safety of *any* aircraft rolling off their production line. Boeing is already dealing with a number of quality-related issues. The whole de-icing problem across all Max models for example...

Those Y seats look like they have very narrow arm rests, and those "sharp" seatback contours don't look very comfy for broader people. Has anyone had any experience sitting in them who could comment?

They stated explicitly they did an 18B for 18B transfer. There were other seats available (windows) even by the time I could get out of work meetings to change. It is clear it was done by a stupid automatic system - btw the rebooking process has changed on the web site.

I’m not sure. The buffet had a selection of salad and dips, chicken curry, basmati rice, cream of mushroom soup, curry meatballs, pasta with a bolognese ragout and toasted roast beef & mustard sandwiches. Gin was tanqueray. Didn’t take notice of the other spirits.
