    New Zealand Travel Bubble Announcement

Cheers for that. We were told by NZ reservation staff that many Kiwis were delaying the AKL-SYD leg due to the 72 hour hotel quarantine even though the Oz government was footing the bill. That didn't make much sense to me annoying passengers flying the other way who typically would have needed...

    New Zealand Travel Bubble Announcement

Our daughter has been an NZ resident for three years. My wife attempted a couple of times in 2020 to get emergency access to fly to NZ to assist the family at the birth of our granddaughter. Despite showing we had flights booked for that purpose and now seeking only one of us, a firm no can do...

    New Zealand Travel Bubble Announcement

QF definitely dumped a lot of passengers including my daughter from yesterday's QF143. In addition to the 14 day hotel isolation period, NZ also now requires returning Kiwis to isolate at home for a further 5 days followed by a third COVID test. That pretty much locks upo anyone now arriving...

    New Zealand Travel Bubble Announcement

So our daughter travelled over from NZ from 4-29 January so we could see her and our seven month granddaughter for the first time. She booked last November the then last available space available in the NZ managed hotel isolation program requiring her to return to AKL on QF143 that departed...

New Zealand records Fresh cases of COVID19

Surprised that it took so long for NZ to have a second outbreak from it's hotel quarantine and that it occurred in Auckland and not a regional centre being used like Hamilton or Rotorua from where they bus Kiwi's arriving at Auckland. NZ hotel quarantine system has largely prevented Kiwis from...

amex platinum charge spending power reduced over time

I have a Corporate Platinum Charge along with a Business Platinum Charge. Though both accounts supposedly have no pre-set spending limits, they do with the Corporate account just into 7 figures and the more recently acquired Business account a low $75K limit. Checking the online spending power...

New Card - "Check Spending Power" caused Card to be locked pending a "Financial Review"

Another issue to be careful with the Check Spending Button is it can allow you to make one spend putting the account well above the actual spending cap they have set on your account, in my case $55,000 over the unstated cap on a Business Platinum account. After making the large payment putting...

Is it Time to transfer/withdraw points from Velocity?

I had thought my last minute points transfers were not going to make it through. Couldn't believe our luck with the last item ordered on 2 April for a Dyson V11 Absolute being delivered this morning at 9am.

Virgin Australia Financially Secure? [Now in Voluntary Administration]

My feeling is VA will definitely fall over with the government not providing bail out loans after receiving whispers of other airlines waiting in the wings. My short priced favourite is for NZ being government preferred, just ahead of SQ with possibly a partnership between the two particularly...

Is it Time to transfer/withdraw points from Velocity?

We should have a lucky exit door prize of who redeemed their points last before the KF transfer was stopped. I left my get out to 09:45 EST yesterday having set up the transfer account at 09:44.

General Coronavirus chit chat thread - non-travel specific

Will be interesting to see how we end up against NZ's nuclear option where they still only average 1768 tests daily for the past week. Even with a small test base (12,376 total tests), their numbers have jumped from 66 to 512 in just a week representing a 3.6% positive testing rate, well above...

Cruising choices with an active Pandemic

There are currently 11 cruise ships idling off NSW and four off WA of which at least two have passengers. Waverley and the Northern Beaches are Sydney's two hotspots which both have the majority of backpackers housed being Bondi and Manly. My niece this week abandoned living in Manly as she...

Cruising choices with an active Pandemic

I really feel for the crews and passengers still on board a ship. With around 20+ cruise ships idling off our coastline averaging 2,000 crew and roughly 20% still with passengers off WA with no place to go, it looks like we will have a massive humanitarian crisis to deal with in 1-2 weeks time.

Cruising choices with an active Pandemic

My understanding is this is largely discretionary by the card company as there has not been any fraud or refund issues. I do a lot of business with Amex but doubt that will help either. Business Platinum and Corporate Platinum insurance cover both do not cover for loss due to a travel company...

Cruising choices with an active Pandemic

I can see most major airlines around the world getting bailed out by respective governments but can't see the same happening with cruise lines which unfortunately which as an industry will take a lot longer to recover. We have a cruise booked for next April which having been able to have my...
