The only thing I can say is for international I have not had a bad departure experience since the lifting of the travel ban. Typically, from check in to duty free shop has been 5 mins or less for me...every time...without using the priority lane. That's all...arriving is an entirely different...
Essentially you would be looking to make that booking 1-2 weeks out. Obviously you would check every day in advance of that...but that is the sort of time period where you're going to start to see seats pop up. Although there was a time a few months ago where there was a lot of UA J availability...

Maybe Qantas should negotiate away the 3 day booking window for QR business and Emirates' heinous carrier surcharges?
It was all good until the "not flying them again" part. Oh, and the debit card chargeback...but can put that down to not understanding the purpose of that process properly.
No different to the ticketed allowance.
Extra baggage is only for ANA operated flights between AU and Japan...and domestic flights coded with a VA number (i.e. they would have to have been purchased as part of the international itinerary).
The same applies to priority check in and baggage...
